Mac Plex App goes Grey when hdmi connected Tv is power cycled

I have a new Mac mini, connected by HDMI to a Samsung television. I run the Mac Plex desktop app. The Mac never goes to sleep.

Whenever the television is power cycled, the Plex app, which is always running full screen will be entirely gray and unresponsive except for the menu bar. You need to restart the app or alternatively, just window it to get the content to redraw and be useable again.

This has been reproducible on every version of the app for the past couple years. It was also reproducible on my previous Mac mini, which was a few years older than this new one.
