The problem is that whenever i play HEVC file its stuttering/buffering A LOT. Its not the server because i can play other files that is bigger/requiring more bandwith without any issues.
This happens only on the mac player, if i use the same files on windows its OK.
If i copy over the file to my computer and play it locally it runs just fine.
4K HEVC is the worst of these two, its all the time, almost as if the movie was running at 5-10 fps, sometimes even the audio disappears.
1080p HEVC maybe run for 5-30 seconds without any issues then it starts to buffering for something like 2-15 seconds then it continues until buffering again.
Neither plex or tautulli says its buffering, so the symptoms is like buffering, but im not sure if thats the case.
Only affecting direct play, transcoding the files makes the issue go away. Because then its not HEVC anymore i suppose.
Does this affect anyone else? Does the plex team know about this issue?
The plex media player app that you download from the download section on plex.tv is not the real player?
I was lurking in the forums and i found “Plex media player announcements”.
If you download the macos file from the latest post you will get in fact the real PMP. After i installed this one (The ordinary file you download isnt even installable) all the stuttering was gone. Now i can watch heavy 4k HEVC files without any issues at all.
After i installed PMP i started the other player and that one still had issues. Not sure why there is even possible to download two different sets of PMP from plex.
Click on the link above and look for the latest release for mac and download that one.
That solved my issues.
