Magnum p.i. vs magnum, p.i

Hi, long time subscriber to Plex Pro - usually can solve the issues. With the advent of Magnum PI 2018 - the show simply does not show up. The only difference in the name is the COMMA ( , ) in the name - see the subject line. That should be enough to make Plex scan the file and show the new show.
I’ve got all the naming conventions correct; this new show will not show up in the list.

Any ideas?

There are several posts about this particular show or “reboot” as I found they are called.

for me Sonarr has it as Magnum P.I.
My folder is Magnum P.I. (2018)
And e.g. episode 1 is Magnum P.I. - S01E01 - I Saw the Sun Rise.mp4

That’s one of the differences in the title. See if this helps:
Magnum, P.I. (1980)
Magnum P.I. (2018)

I have a system that is simple and has now worked perfectly for the last two weeks. I now have eps 1, 2 and 3 and Plex had no problem at all. What I have done is:

I name the main folder for the show: “Magnum P.I. (2018)”
I have a season folder called: “Season 01”
the episodes are named without the year like:
“Magnum P.I. - s01e02 - From the Head Down”

I set this up after the first episode aired and Plex doubled it up with the old series. Once I added the date to the folder and did the Plex dance Plex detected the show as the new series. And after that Plex has correctly imported the new shows two weeks in a row.

It should be noted that the folder name is, for Plex, much more important than the file name. If a folder is named correctly the episodes just needs sXXeYY placed in an unambiguous way in the file name. I have even tested and found that in a correct folder structure files simply named:
s01e01.ext
s01e02.ext
s01e03.ext
s01e04.ext
and so on
has worked perfectly.

Plex, like all computer systems, appears smart but it really is extremely dumb and things generally should be done the way Plex wants and what Plex really wants is for the folder to be named and structured correctly.

Good Call!
I was adding the date individually and finally got to that combo.
It worked.

Now, when I automatically transcode with MythLibrarian — i’ll have to pay attention as to which directory it works on.

First step done at least.
