Start up Plex Normally…

Right Click on Plex Icon in Right corner to open Plex.

Browser Opens and all seems normal. Was almost happy because I saw everything and at the bottom it showed Your MEDIA. Figured Great. They have now allowed access to our Servers without signing in. NOPE . Not happening. And to add to that.

All and I mean all features available from Plex is available to all WITHOUT Logging in. Your private Server… YOU MUST LOG in.

Guys, You are backwards. It would seem you would want the Personal Servers to be available on the local network without signing in but the PLEX features, you must sign in… I know I have a Life Time Pass but you just made PLEX the Best alternative from cable. You get all the features for free. FREE.

I do hope this is a mistake and you are going to fix it… If not. Can I have my money back. I love free to use for life.

No this is intended. Content from Plex is available for free to all users, even without signing in.

Your server content is secure (if claimed) and must be signed in to see it.

Great. Another Left Turn in the Road.

Would it be too much to ask to allow the local network to watch the local servers.

Yes, I have included the 192.169.0..255/255/255/ in the setup under Advanced for both Local Networks and List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth.

I still have trouble seeing the servers without signing in. A Claimed server is understandable on the account when connected to the internet. The basic function of the server is to run on the local service. Somehow we have moved from this one basic feature.

I even selected Secure Connections to disabled although I don’t want this switch on while connected to an active internet.

Can a FAQ or guide be made to help along this line. It’s getting to a point that I spend more time trying to fix a problem than watching.

Is that the exact IP/netmask format that you used?

The 192.169.0.0 network is not part of the private IP address space so I wouldn’t recommend using it for that purpose. And any netmask you use be expressed with dots instead of slashes.per the instructions.

I don’t understand what you mean. Plex clients can see your server using the local network.

Plex clients by default want to create a secured connection to your server, even locally, but that requires you to be signed in. If you don’t want to sign in, then you need to change the app to allow using an insecure connection. Easy way is in the URL you are using add ?secure=0 to the end and make sure you use HTTP.

Sorry I missed this message.
I had included 192.168.0.*/255.255.255.128 in the Allowed section. Assuming that it used standard conventions. I did try the other ways like 192.168.0.100/255.255.255.128
It seemed to be an easy way to allow the connections without compromising the security settings.
There is so much chatter going on about thieves being able to compromise a system.
Point in case.

I am on a static IP for use with my wife’s remote service./VPN/ Secure Encoding/ HIPA requiremebts, The whole smash. My PLEX is on that static IP. If I allowed a non secure access to my PLEX, then some way somehow, a thief could cross the network and gain access to HER system.

My system is double NAT with a very tight option. I run my system through a DMZ between the NATs All this is discussed by Steve Gibson @ grc.com
