Major problems with PMS on Nvidia Shield TV Pro and other PMS related questions

Hi guys!

I have got some major problems with PMS on Nvidia Shield TV Pro, and honestly, it might just be the Shield that’s got problems, and not so much PMS.

My Shield has lost connection with my NAS three (!) times over the last month, and it’s a pain in the ass to reconnect it everytime, especially using the Shield controller (I’ve got a long ass password for my NAS). When I check storage on the Shield and go in to Mounted Network Storage, I can see my NAS, but it’s not connected to it, so I have to make it forget the connection and add it again.
Is this a common problem?

I spoke to Nvidia Support, and even if they could do something about it, they won’t since the warranty has expired.
Last night it had dropped the connection again to my NAS AND unpaired my Shield Controller, and it’s impossible to pair it up again. It’s too much of a f***ing hassle.

It seems that I’ve been using Direct Play all this time. I noticed while checking the settings on PMS that I dind’t have HW Transcoding enabled, so maybe it’s worth a try to install PMS on my old Zyxel NSA325 v2 if I’m only using Direct Play at the moment? Has anyone any experience with running PMS on NSA325 v2?

Last thing, is there a way for PMS to Wake On Lan if I want to use an old laptop as a PMS? The laptop is running Win10 at the moment, but I’m willing to install anything if it let’s me Wake On Lan.

Sorry for all the rambling, this is all just so frustrating!

No one, really?

Best to ask on Nvidia’s Shield forum about your NAS problem: https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/159/shield-tv/

I have an external hard drive connected to my router with all my media on it. Every few days I have to go into settings of the shield to disconnect it and re-connect it in order for my Plex server to see it. On top of the (seems like over the last 2-3 months) my plex media server on my shield doesn’t run. I have to go into Plex and restart it and a lot of times it won’t restart so I restart the shield, go back into Plex settings and try restating Plex media server. It may take a few times in order for Plex to restart the server. Not sure of what the cause of 1) my external hard drive getting disconnected and 2) Plex media server not runing

Can’t believe they still haven’t fixed that. I spoke about this with Nvidia at the start of the year and they even gave me pre release firmware but it still didn’t fix.

I ended up using Shield as client only and got a NUC for PMS.

It’s nice to know that I’m not alone in this!

What OS are you running on your NUC? I’d buy a NUC if I was certain I could get Wake on Lan to work, but there’s no easy way to fix that on Windows. I haven’t tried to mess around with anything Linux related.

I’m running Windows 10 Pro 64bit. What are you trying to wake the computer running PMS or the NAS?

Yeah, just so that the NUC would only run when I’m using Plex. My electricity bill wouldn’t be happy if it ran 24/7 when I actually would only use it a few hours every week.

You can turn on a Windows PC with a WoL magic packet. I use an app on my iPhone and iPad. I leave my NUC on 24/7 for remote users overseas to access Live TV.
