PMS running on Nvidia Shield - can see library but can't play content on any device

Server Version#: v1.4.3.3433
Player Version#: v7.9.0.8439

I have PMS running fine and my NAS connected via Ethernet to the Shield which has 128GB in expanded internal storage. The Shield sees the NAS and all it’s content fine (I can see all the thumbnails etc from the Plex client) and I can play NAS content over my local network by simply double clicking the video file and running it on the “Films & TV” app.

Regardless of how I try to access content via Plex (on an Android device, the Shield itself or via Chrome browser on the laptop) I am able to see and select the content (movie or TV show) but it never ever plays, all I get is an error stating:

“The file associated with this item is not accessible by the server, Please verify that the file exists and the necessary drive is accessible.”

I’ve verified that the file exists because I can play it over the home network via File Explorer on any connected device and the necessary drive is indeed accessible otherwise I wouldn’t be able to play via File Explorer.

I’ve been trying to resolve this by rebooting the NAS, rebooting the Shield etc but no joy.

Anyone here encounter this previously and have a fix? It’s doing my head in!!!

That PMS version is from March 2017, if google is right… The current latest version is 1.14.1.5488 according to Plex Media Server - #243 by StSimm1 so something is keeping your system from updating PMS. I think you need to get to the latest PMS version… though I don’t necessarily think it’ll fix this specific problem, you’ll have a better chance of getting support.

Seasons greetings and thanks ehaberg68, i appreciate the input. I’ll figure out how to manually curve an update of PMS to the latest version (possibly by “downloading”) it again from the Play Store and see if that has any impact.

So I updated PMS to the latest version (V1.14.1.5488) but that hasn’t changed anything. No harm being up to date as you suggested.

On the Shield Settings menu I went into Storage & reset and my NAS wasn’t mounted as network storage for some reason but I managed to re-mount it and now all seems to be back working again.

Thanks for your help earlier, I appreciate it.

So it seems the problem wasn’t as simple as reconnecting the NAS as network storage as it keeps randomly disconnecting for no apparent reason.

Once I reconnect the NAS I’m able to play content on any Plex client no problem but after I stop playing and return shortly later (say 25 minutes) no content will play via any Plex client (either on the Shield itself or via Chrome/Android Plex Player etc) and I get the same error message that "The file associated with this item is not accessible by the server, Please verify that the file exists and the necessary drive is accessible.”

When I check Shield Settings under Network Storage -> My Network Storage it shows the NAS as “Unavailable” but I see and play all files on the NAS via File Explorer on my laptop and if I disconnect and reconnect the NAS it mounts fine and will play files fine until it once again randomly disconnects and becomes “unavailable”

Anyone got any suggestions as to why, after two years of the NAS staying connected without problem that this should suddenly start happening and more importantly does anyone know a fix???

I have the same issue. (Using a NAS to store my files)
The mount gets disconnected on the NVidia Shield for no reason after some time (Since the 7.2).
The only solution seems to reboot the NVidia Shield (or re-create the mount manually)
