I’ve been playing around with the idea of making optimized versions for my libraries lately, but doing so on my server with the library I’ve build at this time will take up 100% CPU for months.
Will plex register versions as optimized versions if I convert them on another computer and copy the files to my plex server?
And can I specify what versions are in the different folders differently than plex’ naming?
for my testrun, I got folders named like this:
\Plex Versions\Custom_ Universal Mobile 3
This says nothing about what versions are in the folder, it would be better to be able to name it optimized_2mbps_720 or something similar.
Unless I get corrected, I believe the answer to this is No. I recently moved my library from one drive to another using the documented procedure. Everything went as it should. All of my metadata transferred and everything was glorious except this one issue…
My optimized versions (of which I had few) unregistered as directly optimized versions and became a “duplicate” version instead. Really, this had no effect on me at all, other than they now listed in the duplicates filter, where they hadn’t previously.
It was odd to me, since the folder structures remained the same, with a sub-directory for Plex Optimized Version in each of the main movie folders.
So, yes, you’ll get a second version of a film that you can manually choose for playback… so it will work in that way. It just won’t be classified as an optimized version as far as the system is concerned.
