The Roku 3 has a great feature where I can plug in headphones and watch a show without waking up my wife. Unfortunately, not many devices support this great feature. I propose the following.
Allow the Phone/Tablet Plex apps to be able to see actively streaming content on your network. When I'm streaming a show, I could select the stream I'm watching, and "hijack" or "copy" the audio. This would start streaming the audio to my phone but maintain the video to the original target. (Xbox, Roku, TV, etc.) Allowing the option to stream the audio to both devices at the same time, or to just the phone would really add value to the whole ecosystem of plex.
This is not only useful for my situation, where I don't want to bug my wife, but it it is also useful for the hearing impaired.
Does the "Now Playing" section, under "Activity" have audio while someone is viewing? I know it show thumbnails every few seconds, but I cannot remember if you can click/select it and hear the audio...
Either way, yes, your idea would be useful, and I agree with you.
It would be nice. Perhaps it can expand a little and stream different audio if desired. So one person can listen to the main audio while the other (who already seen the movie or show) can listen to the commentary. Or titles with multi-language audio tracks can also take advantage of this feature.
This is fairly different from tandem playback. I think it deserves its own topic. This one could be included in tandem playback as they would go well together, but it isn't the same thing.
