Make "Play History" Accurate by Adding "Total Minutes" & "Start" Fields

For as long as I can remember “Play History” has been incorrect. I’ve never understood, why. Movies display immediately in the Dash Board when someone begins play, but unless the movie is completed there is no indication anything was ever played. It is my understanding that the threshold is 90%, but I’ve not seen that documented. That just seems like a wide variance (either 0 or 90% of a played movie) with limited benefit.

“Play History” currently records: User, Type of Media, Title, Player, Platform, and Played. “Played” seems to be the time the movie ended. Why not add “Start Time”, “Duration”, and rename played to “End Time”.

Now users would get an accurate representation of total minutes media was being consumed (Duration).

I think many of us would like this information and I don’t think it would require any type of major rewrite or data that isn’t already readily available.

Just use Tautulli if you want more detailed usage data.

Wasn’t going to respond, but maybe it will help get some up votes… as I still believe this is a very easy feature to add to Plex and very much needed. Thanks for your reply though.

Reasons to not use Tautulli:

  1. Why would anyone want to use a 3rd party app when the feature should be native to the application?
  2. 3rd Party Apps induce overhead… media servers typically require quite a bit of system resources and bandwidth.
  3. Most importantly… there is an exploit readily available on the internet detailing how someone can use Tautulli to access the users media server.

there are others of course, but this is just a quick and dirty explanation as to why I’d rather just have Plex report on already available statistics and not need real-time monitoring.
