Make the plex pass dvr a top level pinnable entry

Make the plex pass dvr a top level pinnable entry and add enhancements to the dvr screen to allow you to play a dvr item or delete it. Fix issues with having to wait for the program just recorded to throw up the same start from the beginning dialog immediately after the program is recorded, instead of having to wait several minutes for the program to be processed by plex.

I’m not exactly sure I understand what you mean by “making the DVR a top-level pinnable entry”?

Are you talking about the library to which the DVR is storing your recordings or the Guide?

Have you configured some kind of post-recording optimization/script in your setup that requires processing? I don’t think I’m aware of a general issue.

Do you have plex pass? If you do you will see that you have to go into live tv first and then scroll to the dvr schedule through the guide tab. Too many steps. I want to go directly to the dvr schedule screen.

I do; not sure if/how that’s relevant

No post processing. Other than standard commercial removal. It takes anywhere from 5 to 7 minutes before the program is playable in the dvr schedule screen which is annoying. If you start the program from the guide while it is recording it will throw up the do you want start from the beginning dialog. But if your recording just finished you have to wait. I don’t see any technical reason why you would need to wait. Just push the commercial removal to a later time. Why you make me wait plex?

That extra processing explains why the file isn’t immediately ready and will take some time (depending on your server’s CPU power).

Not sure what’s your situation, but I don’t have to wait. I recorded an old horror flick this afternoon, and was able to play it 30 sec. after it ended. That channel here is questionable, so I wanted to see if I had a good signal for the recording.

Did you have the recording set to remove commercials? If not set then it is not an issue.

No, I’ve got it set to detect & mark. I don’t trust it that much.

Yes I realize this is first world problem. That’s why it’s an enhancement. I also think it is really stupid that you can’t just delete items on the dvr schedule screen. Instead they came up with two conflicting menu items on the set up recording screen that don’t really make sense. Delete items after x days and keep the last x recordings. Which is it? Why do I need a flow chart to figure this ■■■■ out? :joy:

The interface has been being modified for a while now to push us towards their content, presumably for ad revenue. They’ve shown their intent, and our choice is to either deal with it or kick Plex out of our mediaverses. I know of no other service that suits my needs as well. So they will have to go a ways to piss me off that much.

These options have two completely different purposes:

  • Keep sets the maximum number of unwatched episodes you want Plex to keep for a show – the way I understand it, this is mostly relevant if you’re recording news, sports shows, late night shows
and the likes and are only interested in the latest / current episodes (vs. watching a series)
  • Delete Episodes after watching specifies when an episode is deleted after the server admin has watched it.

Yes two completely different purposes and neither serve my need to just delete the show after I watched it or some of it and decided I had enough and the program no longer needs to take up disk space. I would like to decide instead of some really stupid and poorly thought out algorithm.

If enabled in your server settings, you should be able to delete items from your library right away.
The options you’ve mentioned are only about automating that job to a degree (some kind of housekeeping).

  1. Enable Settings > [Server Name] > Library > Allow media deletion
  2. From the movie/episode context menu, select ⋼ > Delete

Yes I have that checked but there is too much navigation required to get to the delete button. Needs to be right next to entry in the dvr schedule screen. Why do I need to back out go back into the tv shows find the episode I was just watching and delete it. Poor gui design. Why you make me search plex? You hurt my brain.

Would you mind sharing a screenshot of where exactly you want to delete the recoding?
Are you watching a recorded item from the library to which the DVR has stored your file or are you jumping into a live broadcast / record a live broadcast for time-shifting from the DVR’s Guide? I would assume that the episode no longer shows on the guide when you’ve finished watching it as the guide focuses on current/future broadcast – but maybe you’re referring to something entirely different

Where the black squares are put some trash cans. I want to trash things here. Obviously don’t put the trash can until it has at least started recording. The trash can means immediately stop recording and delete this one episode. Simple. As it should be. I would also like to be able to get to this screen with one click (or as few clicks as possible)

I am sure they are having lots of fights about the delete commercial(s) feature but I love that thing. If they want to chuck the ad supported content into the dvr agenda and allow us to record that I would live with it not being enabled for the ad supported content. As it stands, I rarely use the ad supported content because I can’t record it and watch it when I want to. If they started with that forward and rewind button not available for ad supported content nonsense I would also not use it. At least give me a fast forward, rewind button.

In an attempt to catch up on this discussion I’ve read it from the top
and now I’m more confused than before.

  1. I‘m still not sure what you mean by „making the DVR a top-level pinnable entry“

  2. Discussion seems to have turned towards an option to stop and delete ongoing recordings

  3. You’ve added another aspect to your suggestion, focusing on recording from Plex‘ online media sources (specifically the ad-supported live tv streaming)

    • given this seems completely unrelated, it should ideally go in a suggestion thread of its own (you’ll have a much harder time to get people to vote if your suggestion is all over the place)
    • Plex explains why they cannot currently offer an option to record the online media sources in the related support article (licensing restrictions; making it unlikely the suggestion will go anywhere)
    • If you don’t use the online media sources and don’t want to see the live tv streaming channels mixed into your DVR guide
 simply disable them → https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

Instead of using the Home screen “Continue Watching” or “Recently Added
” hubs to select media for playback they prefer to use the Agenda View in Live TV → DRV Schedule and would like an option to Pin that selection to the sidebar.

The time to it takes a recording to become available is dependent on the processing power of the Plex Server, faster processor faster completion. You can disable or set it for scheduled tasks but if you are watching right after recording then you won’t have the skip/deleted commercials.

I usually use the Long Press method on the media after watching to bring up a menu to delete.
