I have created a Managed User for my wife so that our music tastes don’t become confounded. I assumed we could share playlists and both edit. Bad assumption. So, I partially re-created one of her playlists under her Managed user account. I’ve added a handful of songs but do not see the ability to Share like I can with my account (Plex Pass). My understanding from this FAQ is that Managed Users can only share within the Plex Home, which is what I am attempting to do.
Perfect world would be for us both to have write access to the playlist, but I’ve read many threads and that is not a current feature. This understood, I would like to create her playlists under her account and share them with me. This is what I do with my playlists (share with her).
I’ve tried to understand why she can’t share, but am now at a loss. Many thanks in advance for any assistance.
I think it’s a mistake that the FAQ says managed users “Cannot share with users outside the Plex Home.” Managed Users can’t share to other users at all, within the Home or otherwise.
Only the server owner can share.
Further thought: What they might be trying to say there is that someone else with a Plex Server can’t share anything to a Managed User in your Plex Home. If that’s what they mean, it definitely needs to be rewritten.
If each person had a Plex account, rather than being a managed user, they could share with each other (they don’t have to have a server in order to have an account. Just an email address). Each could only edit their own playlists, however.
I’m afraid that’s not true. You can only share content from your own server. Since shared users usually don’t have an own server, they cannot share anything.
I was just marking @beckfield’s reply as a solution too.
So … only one account may share Playlists on one server. Even though Managed Users can create their own Playlists on said server, they may not share with others. A Plex account would make no difference in this regard.
Is that accurate? Thank you both. If this is the case, I guess I’ll use the WebTools plugin to copy playlists from Managed Users to others on the server in order to accomplish my goal, albeit manually.
