To make things clear I’ll use some letters. I have a few plex accounts:
“A” is the one with Plex Pass, and it has a Plex Home with all the others accounts
“A_1” is a managed account from A
“B” is another normal plex account (without plex pass but into the same plex home as A and A_1)
What I need to do is share a library from “B” to “A_1”. I think I used to do it without any problem but I could be wrong.
When I go to “Share Libraries” and try to share it I get this error: “Failed to update server shares.”
I tried to update the server, removing and adding again B to the Home and I also tried to delete and creating again the managed account A_1.
Any idea what could be the problem? Is it even possible to share a library with someone else managed user that is in the same plex home as the server I want to share the library from?
plexmediaserver_1.19.1.2645-ccb6eb67e_arm64 this is the plex version I’m using.
Can’t be done. Only the “owner” admin of the managed user can share with it. If you need other accounts to share with members of your home, you need to create regular plex.tv accounts and invite those into the Plex Home.
Which in turn can only be done with a Plex Pass.
Avoid juggling with several plex accounts for your servers. Use one plex account to sign in all servers. Then share according to your needs.
are you 100% sure? I swear I think I’ve done it in the past
this is the plex home:
And also, if it is not possible why is there the option to share libraries with those account in the first place? I mean, why put the managed account in the list of possible accounts to share libraries with if they aren’t available?
It’s only there if you are signed in to the admin account of the Home where the managed user is a member.
Or are you mixing up the term “Plex Home member” with “managed user”?
because these are not the same.
A full plex.tv account (i.e. with its own email address and password) can be a member of a Plex Home as well. Such an account can be invited to several servers from several other owners.
(but it can only be a member of one Plex Home)
But a true ‘managed user’ (i.e. one without an own password) can only see servers of his ‘master’ admin.
Nono I’m not mixing things up. See the picture of the home above:
“N” is the admin of the home. The one with the lifetime pass
“C” and “M (Blue)” are the managed accounts
“M (green)” is a normal account (own email and password) added to the same home
I’m trying to share a library from M (Green) to M(Blue) and, from the “M” account I can see the managed accounts in the list of users I can share with.
Here a screenshot, as you can see the admin is the last in the list and the others are the managed accounts:
Sorry, I cannot take anything from these. They don’t show under which username you yourself are logged in.
Careful: when juggling with several plex user accounts, make sure to use the ‘incognito’/‘privacy’ mode of your web browser.
Otherwise you might be still working under your main username, even though you have tried to log out and login to a different plex account.
No idea how to show you then, what should I do?
as you can see though the avatar of the admin is the avatar of the last user in the list in the “share libraries” screenshot so I’m not logged into it
I’m 100% positive I’m not using the wrong account, I’ve been using plex for 3+ years now and I’m using 2 different browsers to use both accounts at the same time. I’m not an expert but not completely clueless either
