People have suggested manual sorting for various subcategories, and each gets a smattering of votes, because to each person their focus is that one feature.
But most of us that have a good library must think about this from time to time - you’d like to sort what you like, when you like.
You’d like to sort movies, put the things you’re thinking about watching up front. And if you haven’t added anything in a while, maybe reorder the things.
Same goes for how the rows line up in the interface, it’s not how you’d ideally want it, if you care at all.
It doesn’t seem too complicated as such, other forms of media players usually offer manual sort, as one of the options. It may be easier to implement as something you can only edit on web, to begin with, as that postpones bigger design headaches. Pointing devices being much easier to design for than remote controls.
It could be bound to each user, and it could also have one option which would be bound to server, so if you’re perusing a friend’s collection, you see easily what they most like for you to see. That would enhance the social aspect of this great app. As an alternative/extra to the algorithmic suggestions based on popularity and such.
I don’t see Plex changing much as of late, at least as far as core user features go. So this would be a fun improvement for plex pass folk.
I‘m not sure if I fully understand your suggestion
Given every user can already sort the libraries… are you only asking for an option to have a persistent manual/custom order?
From an admin perspective you could already apply sort titles to achieve a customized „by title“ order… but that won’t help other users.
Similarly you can already change the order of the hubs on the Home Screen and a library’s Recommended tab.
Maybe I’m just missing something but I don’t fully get what you’re asking for…
Just think of an itunes playlist. You order it however you like.
I have a few hundred movies in my collection. For some reason, browsing through the list again and again just makes me tired of the titles before I’d have time to watch them. So I’d like to do that less. I’d like to just pick a few movies I’m likely to watch soon, put them first, so they are what I see when I open plex, in the row of titles that represents “movies” and “TV” from my server.
I just mean, that I can drag and drop titles into whatever order I choose, like a playlist. So I can put those titles I’m interested in seeing first, first.
Come to think of it, pinning movies/shows while browsing the library might make the same outcome.
And for the rows:
Currently I’ve pinned tv and movies from three servers. This gives me a set of “recently” lists.
I’d like a row which is my watch rack. It’s not an auto-playing watchlist, it’s just like, my main shelf. I just imagine that being the whole library, but starting from whatever order I want it in. So I can pick whats way up front and what’s way down the back. Myself.
Maybe there’s a roundabout way to do that, I haven’t found it. If you have a suggestion that’d be great
Otherwise, I’m jonesing for more control over my plex.
