Manually-added track title metadata reset upon library scan on albums that consist of files that don't support embedded metadata

Server Version#: Version 1.18.2.2058
Player Version#: Plex Web Version 4.14.2

Conditions to reproduce:

  1. have an existing “basic” library with Prefer Local Metadata enabled
  2. Add an album to your library folder that consists of files for which Plex does not support metadata (like WAV or MKA - in my case, it’s 44.1khz DTS-WAV primarily but also confirmed with MKA/DTS) (may also work with files that simply don’t contain any metadata, even if Plex supports reading it)
  3. Do a library refresh
  4. Because the files don’t contain Plex-usable metadata, add the metadata yourself using the Plex Web UI to do so - album name, track names, track numbers, etc. Enable the lock icon next to each field.
  5. Perform a library scan
  6. Weep as all your hard work on the track names disappears and reverts back to the filename, but become confused when you notice that the track numbers and other information remains correctly.

Oddly, this procedure worked just fine a few server versions ago - and those albums continue to remain “properly tagged” and don’t lose the manually added information. Anything I’ve added in the last two major Plex server releases seems to exhibit this incorrect behaviour.

Maybe a side-effect of the new plex music library changes introduced of late?
