Please improve reading of id3 tags for music in Plex.
There is already “Record Label” field in Plex album view, I would like to see value from “Label” id3 tag there instead of empty value.
Blockquote The ‘record label’ field is mapped to the TPUB id3 tag and imports from there into Plex.
As of Sept 2020, this still doesn’t happen consistently with FLAC files; there are more recent posts about this. Really wish this could get fixed so we could then apply Smart Playlists to this field.
Unlike MP3 (id3v2) where the TPUB frame is strictly defined in the standard, FLAC files (Vorbis comments) can have PUBLISHER and LABEL fields, which in practice are used randomly/interchangably by various applications, as there’s no formal standard. Which one of those does Plex read?
@OttoKerner - I use MP3Tag for mp3 metadata, and and have never had any luck with Plex importing the Record Label tag. According to this page, https://help.mp3tag.de/main_tags.html, TPUB is mapped to Publisher in MP3Tag.
As far as I can tell, all albums use only the metadata retrieved from MusicBrainz, which may or may not be the same label I’ve used in the embedded tags. If the album is not available at MusicBrainz, the Record Label is blank in Plex. I have prefer local metadata enabled, and all other fields appear to be imported properly.
If Publisher is the incorrect field to use for the Record Label in MP3Tag, which field should I be using for Plex to import the data?
It should be known: Plex does not read the LABEL tag in any way, although it is supposed to do so.
I always need to add it manually.
(I brought this up before with all details about TPUB for ID3 and PUBLISHER LABEL being explained). Any chance this will be fixed?
