I’ve been trying to sort on “Record Label”, but I noticed that Record Label is not populated for some the albums in my music library. Can someone tell me which ID3 tag I need to edit to get this field to populate in Plex?
It’s Publisher. In the ID3 spec, it’s TPUB.
Really odd…I am pretty sure that tag is populated, and I set preference to local metadata.
It’s still not showing up.
You might need to do a couple more things. Take a look at this:
Followed that down to the letter, and still no luck with getting it to pull the ID3 tag “Publisher” to the Record Label field in Plex.
Is that the correct one?
It works that way for me:
What tagging program do you use? Could the tag mapping be wrong in that program?
I’m using mp3tag.
The only thing it seems like it’s picking up for the album is genre. Nothing else. Very odd and annoying…
Hmm, I don’t know, then. Hopefully someone will have an idea. Sorry I couldn’t help.
I’ve been playing around with this more, and made a few observations.
Plex DOES pull the genre information from the tags. It seems as though it DOES NOT pull anything such as Record Label / Publisher.
I’ve found a few instances where the album did have a Record Label present, and it was only because it previously matched up and pulled what metadata it could from musicbrainz. In this example, the genre information was not present for whatever reason. I changed the ID3 tag, refreshed the metadata, and it populated. The Record Label was still present, so it somehow combined the metadata. Unfortunately was for 2 / 190 albums in the library…
Musicbrainz doesn’t have the greatest support when it comes to Trance, which is why I was trying to rely entirely on ID3 tags.
Kinda disappointing…
Is there a way to manually modify the backend database and populate this info (without corrupting the database) ?
The backend database is musicbrainz.org
Create a user account on there and start filling in your releases. That way not only you but everyone who has this album can profit from the effort you’re putting into it.
I meant for Plex (i.e. can I manually modify the database holding all the metadata), but that is a good suggestion too.
