Mark for scheduled deletion

Is it possible to have a feature that would allow to delete a movie automatically after x days defined in the settings?

Extra: The movie poster will show a note like “Available for the next X days”

It’s great that server owners can delete content through the plex apps. I use this to remove content from the server all the time. It would be even better though if you could have a “delayed delete” option that removes the content after a fixed period of time. During this time period the content would remain available but it would show the “expiration” date to others on the server. This way you can mark something for deletion and give others on the server a chance to watch it before it is removed, or at least give them a chance to contact the owner and ask them to reschedule the deletion.

To help manage own libraries, it would be helpful to have a date field in a files meta data that can be set to show when the file will be deleted from the server.
This can then be set to only show the ‘leaving’ date (for information), or auto delete the file when the expiry date is reached.

In the UI, this can then have its own ‘shelf’ (under TV Shows / Movies), with the items that are ‘Leaving Soon’, showing the date the item will no longer be available.

Would love to see a “Leaving Soon” feature where you I can tag content that I’m planning to get rid of soon. I’m often cleaning up, deleting things and getting in trouble with family/friends because they wanted to watch it. I know there are workarounds with playlists etc but that would be neat. “Leaving on $setdateinfuture” would be even better.

The Problem: Currently, server administrators must manually track and delete content to save space, or use external scripts. Users are often surprised when a movie or show disappears without warning.

The Solution: Introduce a “Mark for Deletion” feature for Plex Pass admins. This would allow an admin to set an expiration date on any library item.

Key Features:

  • Admin Control: Right-click/Menu option to “Schedule Deletion” in 7, 15, or 30 days.

  • User Transparency: A visual overlay (e.g., a “Leaving Soon” ribbon or a red countdown tag) on the poster so shared users know they have limited time to watch it.

  • Automatic Cleanup: Once the date is reached, Plex deletes the media files and removes the entry from the database.

Why this matters: This would drastically reduce the overhead of managing large libraries and improve the user experience by providing clear communication about content availability.

Please vote if you’d like to see more robust library management tools integrated directly into Plex!
