I have run into an unusual situation. I have a number of Sailor Moon DVD sets and have ripped them. The first set is seasons 1 and 2 and is the American Dub version. I then have sets for seasons 3, 4, and 5 that are all the original Japanese versions. Here is the TVDB page for the show:
Plex, however, assumes all of the ripped files are the original Japanese version and thus misidentifies the names and metadata of the first two seasons. Is there a way for me to tell it that those two seasons are one version and the other three seasons are another? All the versions use the same TVDB series identifier as near as I can tell.
Plex doesn’t currently support such a mix of versions.
Your best shot will generally be to review the organization of the episodes, e.g. based on TMDb or TVDb (aired, DVD, absolute orders) – then name the files according to that order and stick to it across the different seasons.
If you insist on organizing them according to how they were released on those regional boxes, you could try to organize them in 2 separate top level folders. Then you can tell Plex to split the show and select a different order for each of those. However that’ll give you two independent show entries – one with seasons 1-2, following one episode order, and one with seasons 3-5, following another episode order.
On the plus side, at least I wasn’t missing something obvious. Thanks very much for the response! I will mull it over and pick whichever solution seems best.
