New to Plex - Having issues organizing files

OKay, I’m sure this has been answered but I can’t seem to find one that works… maybe I’m just being foolish?

Anywho, as an example, my current folder structure is:

Media Storage -> TV Shows -> show name
Right now, I’m uploading Sailor Moon for my wife, so I have Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, and Sailor Moon SuperS, each in their own folder.

Problem is, only Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Sailor Stars are showing up in Plex. I can’t find the others anywhere.

Additionally, another show I’ve started uploading has the first episode as a two parter, labeled with the episode name and then Part 1 and Part 2… Plex is totally ignoring that, and just showing the first half (and truncating the Part 1 part).

What in the nine hells am I doing wrong?

Look up Sailor Moon at TheTVDB.
‘Sailor Moon R’ is Season 2 of ‘Sailor Moon’ there
‘Sailor Moon S’ is Season 3
‘Sailor Moon Super S’ is Season 4
‘Sailor Moon Sailor Stars’ is Season 5
http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=78500&lid=7

And that makes much more sense than having them all as separate shows.

Again, look up the particular show at TheTVDB and see if they list it as 2 separate episodes or one regular one.

Also some of those Rs and Ss (etc) are Specials:

A TV Show Library/
…Sailor Moon/
…Season 00/
…Sailor Moon - S00EXX - Episode Name Optional [but probably really helpful in this case].XXX

I actually tried something like this using FileBot (the lookup thing) - it took the names from TheTVDB.

They are listed as one episode (same name) but as Part 1 and Part 2.

That is basically the layout I tried initially, but that caused only Season 01 to show up, and not the rest of them.

After mismatches and subsequent renaming, you need to dance

That appears to have done it - I think I see my major malfunction now as well. I thought Plex keyed off the folder structure, but it appears to also try to organize based on filename, so if there is a Season 4 folder, but the episodes inside say S01EXX, it will toss that into the Season 1 bucket in Plex. Interesting!

I’ll report back if this takes care of it!

Name the season folders with a leading zero.
e.g. Season 04

This is all laid out here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows

Okay, yeah, that appears to have done it! I see all five “seasons” of Sailor Moon, and all episodes are showing correctly.

Thank you so much! Bit of a headache to wrap my mind around, but now that it is working I think I know how to avoid all this in the future!
