On the 2025.13.0 android version of the Plex app, when I connect to a Chromecast device and choosing “Shuffle Playlist”, it will play on my phone and not the Chromecast connected device (Google Home Hub, if that helps). Individual titles will cast without issue, and I tried a few different playlists and got the same result. If this is a known bug or feature that hasn’t been implemented yet, my apologies.
“Select Version” will also result in the media palying back on the smartphone instead if the connected Chromecast.
I guess that maybe related.
Day 3 and still no fix, no one from the plex team has even addressed this issue.

While I’ve seen many threads be blatantly ignored on these forums, they’re also dealing with a much higher influx of tickets that are of higher priority to the app’s core functionality (ex: normal playback issues). Either way, they’re not going to be able to address the problem within three days. We’ll have to be patient in this meantime and hope the devs see this eventually.
They addressed the Chrome casting issue within 3 days. This is very similar.
It’s been a week and nothing. They messed up the app, they’re nickel and diming everyone now, and it’s clear that they don’t care anymore. It’s just about $ and if you’re a lifetime plex pass user they don’t expect to get any money out of you anymore, so they’re basically saying “We don’t care about you”
Over a month and no change. It’s a wonder what they’re using all the money they’re now nickel and diming their users for.
I used this feature heavily and have been sorely missing it.
I wouldn’t even call this a “feature”. This is basic functionality that they broke and decided to ignore because they don’t care.
And then have gone fully silent on. Like that episode of the Simpsons with the Monorail There weren’t no shuffling on Chromecast and there never was
I guess they’ve somewhat acknowledged it because they Chromecast support page says the instructions only work for v 8.45 and lower
None of that is relevant to this issue. They broke out with the new experience and are ignoring basic functionality.
I think we’re on the same page here. I’m saying that because they are saying those instructions only work on 8.45 and lower, they are saying they’ve broken that in newer versions. But they haven’t directly said much of anything about this app being broken and are just sticking their head in the sand on it. I just want my shuffle on chromecast back.
I’m not talking about iOS. It would make sense that Android devices should be able to cast without restriction, especially to Google devices, which is what my issue is. The fact that they broke it on iOS means that they’re just getting lazier and don’t care. This change is the dumbest fuc*in thing ever.
I also miss this function. A fix would be appreciated.
Got hopeful with the latest update that said “External Screen Playback Support” but a whole bunch of nothing and more of the same crapola where it only plays on my phone if I want to shuffle.
External Screen Playback support has nothing to do with Casting.
They just finally restored functionality for HDMI/USB-C displays.
Yeah, I get that. But you can see where in a desert of information, you’d grab on to any sliver of hope for an issue.
