Media Player vs Web Player

Can someone explain the difference to me between Media Player app and Web player online?

Why is the Media player app needed at all if you could use Web player to achieve the same result?

If I have internal connection only how do I set it up so that Media player can connect to local server via its IP as oppose to online plex?

Web Player can only directly play content supported by the browser.
The Plex Media Player is a native app, supporting all the containers/codecs supported by the Operating System, including surround sound. Also, Plex Media Player offers a full-screen “TV Mode” optimized for use with a remote control when directly connected to a TV via HDMI.

Can I set up Plex media player app to access my plex server directly via it’s IP address on my local network, not via Plex.tv online? I can with Web player. Please provide steps.

Install, login once, play

steps etc. are in the support articles as usual

I do not see where in the article, it explains how to configure plex player to use local IP.
I have Windows environment and my connection is wired.
Please advise

No need for that. Plex is connecting based on your account, not a hard-coded IP address (despite you insisting)

Not really.

Some people want to avoid “Home”/managed users and DO WANT to use specific IP address so that their system continues to function when they lose Internet.
