Player Version#: not sure
hi guys at the moment im using plex local on my pc only, but mainly the app web version of it (https://app.plex.tv/) , im on win 11 latest however my question is ,
Plex Web has two options. The local one which is comes with the server install accessed directly via the IP of the server and the hosted one at app.plex.tv. These have the playback limitations of a web browser since that is what they run in. App.plex.tv will almost always be newer
Plex for MacOS/Windows/Linux looks just like Plex Web but has a different player which can play more types of files natively ( will not need the server to transcode as much).
Plex HTPC has a TV based interface for those folks who hook their computer up to their TV with a third party remote. Plays the same types of things as Plex for MacOS/Windows/Linux
Do you “need” it? Probably not but I’m not you. Different people have different needs. as I stated above the reason folks would use them is because those player apps…
if you don’t have files that need transcoding for the web player then it would probably be of no concern to you
