I’m new with the Plex things. There are some things I’m still working out. But, I’m trying to understand the network issue. Does Plex only work on a flat network? Meaning, if the server is on one network and the player is on a subnet or separate network, does that not let plex discover? Thanks for the help
Out of the box, you might run into issues if your network is separated in different subnets.
To overcome this you might want to check out
With a Plex Pass you can also define what IP addresses or networks are considered “local”. (see LAN networks in the support article below)
Thanks for the info, I’ll check into it. Just quickly, do I need to have a Plex pass in order for the app to connect with the server? Or can I login with a Plex account alone first to see and config my setup? Thanks
Plex pass is not required for the app to work.
It’s just an extra feature / setting… usually those are specifically mentioned in the support articles.
Ok, so I’ve looked into the article and the one thing I discovered was the Plex Media server doesnt appear in my authorized device list, even if i have signed into the server. My PMS is a Thecus N3200XXX NAS. I dont see it being a issue, but am i missing something? Thanks
