As a newbie to this whole Plex thing, after cutting the cable, I purchased Plex Pass and have had a sharp learning curve. I am still learning as I go…
One thing I struggled and STRUGGLED and struggled with was Plex NOT auto-populating the media titles correctly. I knew I was properly naming the files (which the TV series was quite the challenge to understand when I first purchased Plex). At one point, I finally just gave up and gave in to manually entering the movie titles of most of the 500 movies I have digitally converted so far. BUT as I started to convert my TV series to digital formats, this manual entry was unacceptable. I knew Plex should be able to auto-populate ALL the Metadata. I started to search AGAIN hoping to find that single line of information that would fix this issue. I searched through advanced user’s entries, not understanding 1/10th of what I was reading, UNTIL I came across one suggestion…
- Settings, Server, Agents, Shows.
I’ve been here before and moved the “Personal” and “local Media Shows” orders around, but it did NOTHING. Then I realized there were MORE options.
- (just below shows) clicked on “The TVDB” and sure enough, Plex had “Local Media Assets (TV)” listed at the top and “The TVDB” was below that… I changed the order of the list (by clicking and dragging - I know it a basic computer skill, but I know how dumb I feel when I don’t understand how to change these lists).
NOW… The TVDB is accessed first, NOT my manual info.
- I returned to the TV series I was adding… I went into the “More” menu ( the “…”) and “Refresh Metadata” and low and behold…
EPISODE TITLES!
I went back and started to change ALL the list for the ALL the different agents.. Back into the “Shows” tab, there was a list for “The Movie database” that I changes.
I also change ALL the list under the “Movie” tab, specifically “The Movie Database” list was again incorrectly ordered where “Local Media Assets” was listed FIRST.
Now, ALL the Metadata, including the movie and TV series titles, populate correctly AUTOMATICALLY!
I KNOW many of you will read this and think… I can’t believe he didn’t know that… like I said, I have a sharp learning curve with Plex. I am happy with purchasing the Plex Pass and I know I will continue to learn how to better utilize all of the Plex features, it’s just taking some time.
