Merge accounts

I have been using my friends login for years since somebody shares there Library with him.

I also have my own server setup however I want to buy a lifetime plex pass. I am confused on how to be able to use both since when I logg into my account on my computer it says no server found.

Accounts can’t be merged. your account can only see your server and servers shared with your account.

if secure connections is enabled or not can affect which apps can see it if they are set to only see servers with secure connections enabled for example.

In the web app at https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/web/general is the setting for allowing fallback to insecure connections.

I used to be able to see home server and be logged into my friends account. What is interesting Server-PC is an old PC that i used to use. It appears that somehow my plex server is locked to that computer

The server “Server-PC” is unavailable

Plex will automatically try to reconnect to this server

are you not signed into your server? Are you saying you don’t share your server with your friends account?

if you are signed in and are not sharing and that worked then you would have needed to intentionally put a list of IP address of devices that you don’t want to require authentication in the server and be local so anyone whether logged in or not could see the server while on the same local network on those devices

Again in that is the case then you need to make sure the player apps you are using is set to allow fallback to insecure connections.

so I think I understand. How do I migrate to another pc and the Server? Note I don’t need to move my shows I just need My new pc to be the server. I tried logging into my account however it just says unable to find server

So you installed the server on your new PC? I am guessing that it might be actually signed into your friends account.

I would try this https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

HUGE thank you that worked. Next question what if I where to move to a NAS or Linux

generally that is somewhat difficult just because they have different file systems. Windows uses drive letters and such, where LInux and NASs don’t. So you need to copy over the database. and make sure things things are not over written even though the paths are wrong. when you re-add the media so it picks up new paths. Each entry for a file will have, if done correctly, Window type path and a Linux type path. when everything seems ok then you can empty trash to remove the Windows path.
basic steps are here it does not go directly into a windows to linux move since it is not common but can be done if you understand what is happening when you move stuff. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201370363-move-an-install-to-another-system/

You can also just scan everything in a new server and then just copy over the part of the database which maintains the watched/unwatched state of things. ( assuming you did not make too many custom edits so it recognizes things as the same movie or tv episode https://support.plex.tv/articles/201154527-move-viewstate-ratings-from-one-install-to-another/

if you want to make plex.tv think it is the same server. you would also need to manually recreate the stuff in registry into a preferences.xml file that Linux uses for those settings. this way you do not need to re-share with friends if you are.
