I would like to merge a friends large collection of movies (2000+ titles) onto my plex media server’s movies library (5000+ titles).
In an ideal world, I’d like to use the plex look up tool to work out what movie each file is, and then it would be much easier to see if I needed that file.
My first attempt was to move one big chunk of his folder onto my server, but that left me with a few hundred duplicates to resolve by hand… I guess a tool to auto-pick the best of matched duplicates would be of equal use!

I had no issues importing the new movies. Having added 800 or so there was no need to take any of the steps you mentioned.
The only issue was that of the 800, around 200 were already in my collection - meaning that I had to spend a couple of hours picking and deleting the lower resolution of the two versions.
I was hoping to find a tool that meant I didn’t need to import duplicates.
