Merging seperated cartoons (a+b parts) in Plex?

Hi!

I have a bunch of cartoons, like for example Spongebob Squarepants, which are seperated into two files as each episode consists of “a” and “b” parts. This is both due to DVD-RIPS from DVDs with random episodes and recordings of missing episodes. Is there any way to make Plex recognize them as the same episode and play the next one automatically? Thanks!

Spongebob is listed with single epiodes on TheTVDB. It doesn’t make any sense to lump several episodes together since they don’t belong together in the first place.
It may be that they were broadcast in double packs on some networks, but this has nothing to do with plex.

Or did I misunderstand you and you are talking about one episode that is split into 2 files?

Each episode consists of two 11 minute parts, but it looks like TVDB lists each part as individual episodes., Thanks for clearing that up at least

However, this gives room for new problems… A have quite a lot of full episodes (with two small episodes in one file). Will Plex recognize them if I write something like S01E03+04?

Please define “full episode”
Or did you mean double episode file?
You can name them like this
Spongebob Squarepants - S01E03-04

But doing so will result in 2 separate entries in your library, each pointing to the same file.

The “proper” way (at least from Plex’s view) is to have each episode in a separate file.
Files can be split

Full Episode = Two 11-minute long episodes, as it originally was aired.
Two seperate entries is fine, as long as every episode is listed.

Thanks for the guide as well, I’ll try to split them. Many of the episodes are .flv and .avi, but I’ll find a way to split them as well. Many thanks for all your help! I think I’ve got a grasp of the naming now.

I wish Plex would permit other ‘proper’ ways. I have two kids (2 and 4) and as a result we are increasing our DVD library of cartoons. In my experience MOST contain mulitple ‘episodes’ as many kids cartoons are both broadcast with several ‘episodes’ back to back and also put on the DVD that way. Ie: episode 1 and 2 are in file 1. Episode 2 and 3 are in file 2 etc. I now have about 10 different kids cartoons that were originally broadcast on TV and most are this way. It would be far better if I could do

  PJ Masks S01E01-E02

And Plex would take the TVdb info for episodes 1 and 2 and add them into the same entry. Having to manually split files when they almost all come together on the DVD is a major project for each series.

:frowning:

FYI, I’ve been using Freemake to split up episodes. It can handle most any file type. Be careful on install if you use this as they almost always try to sneak in some toolbar hijacker if you aren’t attentive. That said, it works well, allthough its a major pain for something Plex could easily solve if it recognized that the vast majority of cartoons are both broadcast and come on DVDs this way.
