Merging videos

Hi
Please could anyone help me please, I’m new to plex.

I am trying to merge some home video clips together but for some reason when i for example try to merge 5 clips together i lose 4 of them and only see the 1st one a select, the only way to get them back is to split them apart and they come back.

Do you know why this is happening?

Do you want to append/stack those 5 clips to 1 single item in your library or is this about 5 different versions of the same video?

Plex uses the term merging for the latter (e.g. different quality versions of the same content).
Such merged items should have an option to Play Version in the context menu of the video’s page.

Or do you just want to “logically group” the clips (e.g. Family X-Mas or Kids' Birthday Parties)? That’s more a job for Collections.

Thanks for your reply, they are different clips of kids birthday partys that i would like to merge together so can be watched in one go, all together

Option 1: Force them into a single item that’ll always play all of them

naming example:

Movies <- the top-level folder linked to your library
  Kid Birthday Party (2021)
    Kid Birthday Party (2021)-pt1.ext
    Kid Birthday Party (2021)-pt2.ext
    Kid Birthday Party (2021)-pt3.ext
    Kid Birthday Party (2021)-pt4.ext

This will produce a single item in your library called Kid Birthday Party. You won’t be able to play individual clips.

Option 2: Collections

Keep the individual clips on their own but groups them as a collection (see link above).
This way you can play the entire collection or individual clips.
