Plex, sometime in the past month or so, decided to merge all my movies together that are the same yet different.
I have my folder:
Plex/Movies HD/
Ant-Man (2015)
Ant-Man (2015) 3D
etc…
As I added movies I always split them. Renamed the files in the plex server adding 3D to the front of the movie name. I also created a 3D Collection and tagged every 3D version as 3D. Thus, they showed up nicely at the front of all my movies in that Collection.
It’s been a month or so (maybe 2 or 3 actually) since I paid any attention to the movies as I have been working 70hr weeks and just watching some old TV shows. Today, I got around to mounting my 3D TV in my new house and when I loaded up Plex and wanted to test the 3D (Tv angle) I was shocked to see NO 3D Collection. I jumped on the server and all the 3D movies are there happily sitting in their folders.
Ok…no biggie… However, I have over 225 3D movies and am seriously NOT happy about the thought of having to split every one individually…let alone the fact that no matter what I will have to go and rename them all AGAIN as well as change posters to the 3D versions, add them back to the 3D collection, etc… UGH!!!
Is there a way to unsplit all the files the Plex merged at one time?
If not, can one be added?
Is there a way to STOP Plex from auto-merging any files at any time?
I’ve had the same file structure for years and my 3D movies have NEVER been merged with their 2D counterparts.
What would have caused this? Something new in Plex code???
I handle this by having a completely separate library for 3d movies. There is never a danger of them being merged that way, and I don’t have to worry about tagging for a collection since they never cross.
Actually I think this isn’t new, but happens from time to time. I have a few movies that have different cuts that are considered different movies. Occasionally Plex will remerge them and I have to go back and split them back up.
Case in point: Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind, and Warriors of the Wind. They should really be considered two different movies, but since there’s no official entry for Warriors in the search agents, Plex will remerge them under the right circumstances.
This is what I ended up doing finally about 4 am. I pulled them out but wanted to see if I could drop them back in and they would stay separate. They all went in separate and within 15 minutes PLEX had merged them all again. This simply never used to happen. I even saw the new MERGE feature for folders and such and made sure it was turned off anywhere I saw it. All to no avail. So yes. I just went ahead and created a new Library just for 3D. I already had HD Movies, Movies (for non-HD), 4K Movies. But I really liked having the 3D versions in line with the normal versions giving users the ability to say, Oh I want to watch this movie…and look there is a 3D version of it. They still can but now have to look in the 3D library. Not a big deal…just an aesthetic thing for me. Nothing more…
