I have created 2 libaries, one for my movies, one for TV Shows. They point to folder trees on the same Synology DS418J NAS as Plex servier is running.
The Movie library seems to have scanned correctly, but the TV one is totally screwy.
One example is my Dexter shows.
The folder structure is Television/Drama/Dexter/Season XX/Episodes
I think I have the naming convention correct (although I didn’t include the year)
E.g. In the Season 01 folder, I have “Dexter - S01E01 - Dexter.mp4”, etc.
Once Plex has scanned the library, I’m seeing different series’ episodes mixed in with the Dexter ones.
I’ve attached files to show an example of the file hierarchy and what it looks like in Plex.
Also, I have Comedy Series and Drama folders (Dexter is in the Drama one) with many shows. Plex has only listed 3 in total.
Any help would be appreciated.
Keep in mind that Plex is pretty strict about folder structures when it comes to tv-series based content. If you point your library at Television while having subfolders for different categories, that’s due to fail.
If you must have those subfolders, you need to point the Plex library to each of them, e.g. Television/Drama, Television/Documentaries, Television/Comedy…
That seems to be a vast improvement.
I do have one observation however; I get that metadata/thumbnails, etc can get screwed up if naming conventions aren’t followed correctly, but having Plex randomize what video is pointed to by what icon is not good.
I randomly chose episodes out of 3rd Rock from the Sun and got: Startrek, Beverly Hillbillies, Maude, etc. It didn’t give me a lot of confidence in Plex.
The organization rules are so important, I think the system should do a sanity check and warn you if things are not to spec. Problems like these are probably THE most common questions.
but having Plex randomize what video is pointed to by what icon is not good.
If your folder structure and file naming is correct Dwight Schrute says this is false.
Randomly choose another 3rd Rock from the Sun episode (or better yet choose one that you say played a incorrect show earlier) click the 3 dots, click Get info and post a screen shot of the folder structure and file name. Like so.
Can someone explain to me how Plex managed to link completely different files to one series and season. (two entirely different files, difrett folder, subfolder, and eaven titles don’t match)? I don’t even have the option to manually click - remove from list.
Structure inside
{TV show name}{Season X/Book X}{fileName}
in most cases the structure is mix my language (PL) and ENG
e.g.
“Seriale\Avatar Legenda Anga\Księga 1 Woda{fileName}”
or
“Seriale\Czrodziejki\Charmed - Season 1 - [01-22] - DVDRip{fileName}”
In most cases everything is ok. only about 10 series out of 100 have something mixed up.
e.g
“Seriale\Czrodziejki” - OK
“Seriale\Dark Angel (Cień anioła)\Sezon xx” - Plex detects as some kind of anime
But you are right after I added imdb markings to folders
e.g.
“Cień anioła {imdb-tt0204993}” - everything started working much better
