Metadata agents for exported XBMC library

@SlrG Yes please, can you provide a ZIP file of a directory tree containing all the NFO and metadata artwork files. I can then attempt to reproduce locally.

thanks for the code location…running my show through it

Any thoughts on why it looked okay in plex.tv and not localhost?

EDIT: so running in to issues…since the show does not exist in tvdb there is seems to be no way to match

@mcrommert Could you provide a ZIP file of a directory tree containing all the NFO and metadata artwork files. I can then attempt to reproduce locally using the 3rd party agent as a primary agent.

No problem

@chrisallen:
Here are my testing libraries. They are rather large. Sorry. :frowning: I compressed them as much as possible by creating fake movie and tvshow avi files. I hope I didn’t break anything in the progress. Sadly I can’t test it at the moment, as my 1.2.7 installation is broken, too. Plex seems to have removed the download links and so I couldn’t go back after testing the newer versions. I stupidly made no backup. :slight_smile:

@ChuckPA:
Please have a look at this:

This suggests plex uses a name based whitelist to block 3rd party agents. I hope this is not by design and only an unintended side affect.

i can confirm this fixed the issue on this agent for me completely

Yeah, so as @mcrommert has mentioned I found a workaround for the 1.3.x - 1.4.x issue where any metadata retrieved by 3rd party agents wasn’t being displayed.

You can find the steps here:
forums.plex.tv/discussion/258570/heres-the-workaround-for-the-1-3-x-1-4-x-metadata-issue

Hopefully this will also help the Plex team diagnose the issue.

We have had an in-depth look into this, and have successfully reproduced the issue with NFO, and metadata provided by a community member (@SlrG) along with the helpful point of reference here https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/258570/heres-the-workaround-for-the-1-3-x-1-4-x-metadata-issue/p1?new=1. As a result we were able to locate the change in PMS that resulted in this unfortunate regression affecting 3rd-party agents. We are now investigating a solution to resolve this issue.

@chrisallen:
Thank you for working on this and bringing us the good news, that it’s going to be fixed. :slight_smile:

@Dingmatt:
Thank you for providing the temporary fix and getting the stone rolling on this. :slight_smile:

@ChuckPA:
Thank you for your support, debugging and work with the devs :slight_smile:

@anothername:
Sadly that won’t help me, as I am using plex in an ubuntu based docker on my unRAID installation. The site has only Windows and OSX versions. :slight_smile: But thank you very much anyway. :slight_smile:

hello everybody:

This long ago reported bug with 3rd party agent and this thread has become too much difficult to understand to me.
Time ago, i decided, to re-scan my TV-Shows libraries using the default TVDB agent in PMS…I don’t know when this long bug will be resolved.

Digging in other bugs, issues and features missing in the players side of PLEX…i just began to test the new Plex For Kodi addon…I like a lot. I saw that ā€œallā€ my actor thumbs are gone in comparision the whole shared users i have. They have the actor thumbs for every movie.
I mean: using Plex For Kodi (PFK) i have not any thumb using the ā€œmetadata-agent-for-exported-libraryā€ … using TMDB yes.
Reading this thread i observed a trick to temporary resolve the issue for TV-shows, and Movies.
Then i edited the TheMovieDB-bundle trying to mix:

  • local media assets
  • TheMovieDB
  • XBMCnfoMoviesImporter
  • Plex Movie
  • fanart.tv

And it works…I have my custom posters, the whole features for the Plex Movie…but NOT the .actors folder i have along with my movies . The ā€œcustomā€ agent downloads from TMDB the actors thumbs…not mine.

I hope the 3rd party agent works OK someday with ALL ours custom poster, fanarts, edited plots, the actors thumbs…etc!!

Working with the dev team, this should be coming out in the next release (hotfix).
I’ve not seen the draft release notes to know for certain but know it got resolved and is fixed

thanks, great news.!
i’m still using xbmc.nfo.tvimporter.
but i’m doing the trick explained here:

:fingers_crossed: That’ll all be in the past as soon as the new build completes QA certification.

I would do testing myself but don’t have the appropriate NFOs

I read the last 10 or so pages of this thread and I’m a bit confused. What works, what doesn’t?

The thing is that I need to rescan about 3500 movies and more than 10000 episodes of tv shows. I did a full export of my kodi installation. There are nfos for every single movie, tvshow and episode in the directories.

What’s the best strategy for me? Would you use XBMCnfoMoviesImporter? Or the standard plex metadata scanner?

@zveo

I recommend you hold off on making any decisions about strategy changes. The XMBCnfoMovieImporter, plus a few other plug-ins, was fixed in the upcoming release. The release is in final QA testing.

My advice to you and all is watch for the update and check the release notes (which I’ve not seen the final copy of yet)

@ChuckPA thanks!

So this is it, right? That was fast. Wow!

Still not sure what to do though. XBMCnfoMoviesImporter or a normal scan of my library - what’s better?

I think you will have to try it yourself and decide what you like better after trying. Using the XBMCnfo Importers on an Kodi exported library will probably give you an nearly exact replication. If you did use Kodis online agents to generate your library and if the plex online agent uses the same source, you will probably get an nearly exact replication, too. So it is hard to say what will be better. :slight_smile:
