it is a mistake that it is there yet publicly at all.
That’s what we get for running the beta I guess?
So is this an upcoming feature? A new field for setting the version or edition of a movie (ie: extended, unrated, director’s, etc.)?
That would be pretty cool.
I came here looking for an answer to this same question I had, running 1.28.1.6018 from beta channel and I get this message as well, and am unable to edit the field.
Yes, it is an upcoming feature
Very cool. I think this will make a lot of people happy, especially folks who have a passion for collecting lots of editions of a particular item (like the original Star Wars trilogy). I’m happy to see this feature getting some love, and that happiness will scale with the amount of flexibility we have:
Happy - You can add a custom “edition” to a movie that is visible in the library, search results, and item view.
Overjoyed - the features listed above, but also the edition field can by auto-filled based on the filename if a common edition term is used (“extended edition”, “director’s cut”, “unrated”). But the user can also override this.
Ecstatic - the features listed above, but also the ability to have multiple editions exist in Plex, giving the user the option to select the editions (similar to how a user can select a version today).
Over the moon - the features listed above, but the user can choose the display behavior of multi-edition movies: whether they want to collapse multiple editions into a single item (similar to versions today), or show editions as separate items (allowing for different posters). The link between the editions should still exist with the latter, allowing a user to jump to Edition B while viewing the info for Edition A.
Again, super excited to see this in action.
The “Edition” field is now active. Here’s what you can do:
Enter the edition such as “Director’s Cut” or “Extended Edition.” It will display on the item view below the title next to the running time. It does not display on the library page. You can filter on the field (i.e. all movies where the Edition is “Director’s Cut.”)
I would have liked to see the Edition, if it exists, display on the library view next to the release year. It would actually be nice if we could customize the second line of text for each title.
You can also add " {edition-Edition Name}" to the file name and the Edition field is auto-populated.
Would be nice if they’d mention what combination of PMS version and client support this needs. I also wonder how this plays with the metadata source ID which also is in curly brackets. Can they be combined into one set of curly brackets?
Been waiting for this for a long time. Nice to see it added!
Chris
source ID would be inside one set of curly brackets, edition inside another. For example:
Blade Runner (1982) {tmdb-78} {edition-Final Cut}.mkv
Too bad you’re not allowed to combine them. Filenames are getting looooooooong! Something like:
Blade Runner (1982) {tmdb-78 edition-Final Cut}.mkv
would be nice.
Chris
Do to need to be on a particular version of the server not seeing this at app.plex.tv?
Currently running 1.26.2.5797
It doesn’t work with the server I have running PMS 1.27.2 but does with the server I have running PMS 1.28.1.6041.
For clients I used Plex for Mac 1.51.1.3185-700af1eb and Plex Web 4.88.1
Good luck,
Chris
Looks like the latest available to me is 1.28.0.59999, I assume anything higher is beta?
This is great. I’m curious if anyone here uses Radarr, and if so, do you happen to know how to configure the naming scheme in a way that the edition text is only added if the edition tag exists? For instance, if I have a movie where I haven’t specified the edition, I wouldn’t want that to have something like this in the file name:
My Movie (2022) {edition-}.mkv
The version I have is 1.28.1.6057. This was the first version I’ve run that supported the Edition field.
Is there any hope that a Plex rep will tell us when this feature will be in the RELEASE channel?
I ask because I’m running 1.28.0.5999 and it tells me that it is up-to-date, but you’re all quoting version numbers beyond my up-to-date version! (And yes, I’ve been a lifetime Plex Pass holder for many years, if that’s relevant.)
@nurbles We are hoping it will be out tomorrow for public
FYI there’s a feature request to address this for Radarr.
Seems to be out now, cool! But unfortunately it is not possible to differentiate the movie editions on Plex Web. Just both version look the same:
Even though one is marked as Extended accordingly:
But that is probably in the backlog
There is also no chance to see the difference in the movie series view:
