Update Edition Field in Bulk

Server Version#: Version 1.41.8.9834
Player Version#: NA

Does anyone know of a way to update the “Edition” field for a file (movie) in bulk?

You can multi-select items by hovering over the first item, then click the selection circle at the top-left corner of its poster. Afterwards you can either select more items the same way – or you click <shift> and select the last one of a range you want to select.

Once you selected all items you want to bulk-edit… click the Edit (:pencil2:) in the multi-selection command/action bar at the top of your screen.

Enter the Edition value you want to apply to all of those and save the changes.

Amazing :star_struck:

Can’t believe I never worked this out before. Thanks alot

You should avoid adding unnecessary Edition tags. i.e. the “theatrical” or “normal” cut of a movie should not get any edition tag at all.

I use it to separate HD and 4K for the same movie

Plex handles versions - which is different than editions - pretty well automatically but Editions is kinduva special function.

Editions get treated a little differently from regular titles in some areas of Plex so if you use things like clicking on a cast picture to browse titles, titles with an edition tag won’t show up (though New Experience seems to handle this better).

All my 4K titles have 1080p versions as well but they’re all kept together in the same title. The autoselect for client\bandwidth compatibility to play the right version is pretty spot on in most cases. If the client can’t handle the 4k stream, it almost always plays the 1080p instead of transcoding the 4k. It’s one of the features Plex has beat Emby\Jellyfin on though if you really prefer having a more clear cut version\edition listing then Emby\Jellyfin might fit your preferences better in that case - though you’ll need to name all your files very specifically to achieve it.

Just mentioning this because you might be creating more work for yourself than necessary depending on what result you’re trying to get outta it. Keeping SD and HD content separate hasn’t been that necessary - with Plex - for quite some time.
