To summarize, when some episodes appear in my library they appear with some of their metadata but not all of it. This affects The Late Show with Stephen Colbert 100% of the time now. Hitting the refresh button while the episode is selected won’t do anything, it’ll say in the logs that it’s downloading metadata and loading it but none of the information changes. I’ve double checked that the metadata is properly entered at thetvdb. Even if I wait a week and then hit the refresh button on the episode, it’ll be missing the title and the episode number most often. Sometimes the synopsis is also missing…sometimes not.
The refresh button on the show itself will correct the problem, however. It spends the next 5 minutes or so downloading all of the metadata for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and then the newest episode has all its metadata. At this point it is a daily ritual to check plex, find that the episode is in the library with the wrong information, go to the show and then hit refresh, wait for it to finish and then have proper metadata.
Right now the episode from last night is listed by the date rather than the episode number with no synopsis. In the IOS app it is listed as S1E0.
This problems seems related but different. My metadata works fine except for new episodes of one show in particular. Though, extremely rarely, 2 or 3 other shows do this as well. One episode in 5 or something will just not get metadata downloaded when a new episode arrives. Actually, now that I’ve checked it seems to be affecting Whose Line is it Anyway?
And mine is easily corrected. If I go to the show and either fix incorrect match or hit the refresh button, it downloads the metadata and everything works. It just doesn’t do it automatically. When metadata is automatically downloaded, it is blank.
To me it seems like there is a bug in the code that refreshes a single episode. But that bug doesn’t seem to exist in the code that refreshes all the metadata for an entire series.
But it is interesting to note that the shows I’m having problems are both extremely long running shows and there’s a comment in that thread about a bug updating long running shows.
It seems that metadata has stopped working on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert entirely. It seems that it stopped working when the show officially went into Season 2. All of my episodes are sorted by date and it looks like Plex isn’t translating the date into season/episode numbers anymore as of the start of season 2.
