I’m working on having Ember Media Manager download metadata, posters, trailers, et al. to my local folders. I do have the XBMC NFO plugin installed, but I’m interested in having EMM use “Local Media Assets”-compatible filename and folder naming conventions (so that other scanners besides the XBMC metadata plugins will see the files).
Can anyone tell me if Ember Media Manager (or any other preferred scraper) is able to be setup so that Local Media Assets sees those files?
No, because I don’t want to use XBMC (and it’s called “Ember Media Manger”, not in reference to Emby). SEE ALSO RELATED THREAD where it was recommended to me. I want to have locally stored files and metadata so that, if I need to reorganize my Plex Libraries for whatever reason, I don’t lose things like Title Sort or have to reassign the correct movie poster.
The XMBC NFO plugin isn’t for my using Kodi itself. It’s for allowing Plex to access NFO files for metadata (if I so choose). But I want whatever third-party scraper I use to use Local Media Assets’ name conventions for posters and trailers and stuff. Hence the question.
PMS support for NFO files is not as exotic as Kodi/Emby. It does not read XML-formatted
PMS, as it pertains to Movies only, only looks for the tt string (regex tt[0-9]+). Having found this IMDB ID, it uses what it is given as authoritative. It then uses this to complete ‘matching’ and adding the media to the library.
if LMA is enabled, it will find, add, and display your local assets.
Local metadata, in textual form, isn’t supported by PMS natively (due to the minimal support for NFO I stated above)
There is work being done by the channel plug-in developer . I believe this is the level of integration you’re seeking? Please correct me if wrong
Yes, I have those plugins. But I don’t want to wholly rely on them to access locally stored files. I want Local Media Assets to access anything Local Media Assets is presently designed to access. So I am asking if any third-party scraper can be instructed to sort and name said files so Local Media Assets can see them. I don’t care if the NFO plugin can see locally stored posters and trailers; I want Local Media Assets to do that.
I’m not going to use XMBC. I’m a Lifetime Plex Pass user; I’m not leaving Plex.
I’m not asking for a new Feature for Plex (in this thread); I’m asking about getting third-party software to play nice with Plex’s own internal local media file scraper (instead of said software by default playing nice with Kodi or some Kodi-related Plex plugin; I don’t use Kodi).
Yes, it would be nice if Plex could natively read NFO files. But I am not currently asking about that in this thread. Please do not move this to Feature Requests. It’s entirely possible that this thread could have been posted in the “Windows” forum, but I figure the people who hang out in Plex Pass General could be of similar assistance, so I don’t think you need to move it.
Then that’s a 3rd party plug-in. It falls to the plug-in developer to make sure it plays nice with Plex’s internals. The developer decides whether he wishes to support PMS and/or Kodi. Given the subtle differences, I suspect he would have to distinct plug-in distributions.
Given your referenced thread is about editors and your OP specifically states your need “…but I’m interested in having EMM use “Local Media Assets”-compatible filename and folder naming conventions”, should EMM bend to be compliant with Plex or Plex LMA bend to be compliant with EMM? Please clarify as this is the point I’m not getting.
Again, I’m not asking about a Plugin. I’m asking the Plex Community in general, whether any of them use a third-party metadata scraper for downloading posters and NFOs, and if whichever one they use can be configured to make said scraped posters (et al.) play nice with the “Local Media Assets” agent in particular.
I’m not asking a Support question for fixing a bug or adding a feature. And I’m not even sure if there is software that can do what I’m asking. So I’m asking. It’s not a Support issue with Plex.

For your movies, you can download the posters and fanart using the wonderful tool @MovieFan.Plex created.
I do not believe that there is a way to do the same for TV show artwork but if you find a way, I would LOVE to find out.
The currently still worked-on successor of Plex2CSV is also able to export posters for movies and shows. But only for a whole library at once
