Metainfo for shows/episodes not found in TVDB

When a show, or an episode for a show is not found in TVDB, it still appears in the Plex library.

But even though I’m following the name convention of:
/TV Shows/ShowName/Season 02/ShowName – s02e17 – Optional_Info.ext
or
/TV Shows/ShowName/Season 02/ShowName – 2011-11-15 – Optional_Info.ext

The episode only appears with the episode number or date. I expected (and am requesting) that the “Optional_Info” to appear as the episode name, or at least show somewhere in the Plex library.

(Note, I know I can look at updating TVDB, but not many people would have these and that’s a lot of work)

That’s very uncommon. Most shows we get our hands on have already been added to thetvdb aside from your garden variety special interest shows or sports. Plex will not scrape the “Optional_Info” if the library type is TVSHOWS. It would if type was OTHER VIDEOS.

However, you can embed the info into the files metadata if you have MP4 files. Plex would indeed scrape that and use it for the title.

It would look something like this.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up adding the missing seasons - there wasn’t as many missing as I first thought.

Personally, I find it a little frustrating that it takes mp4 metadata, but not info from the filenames (I would allow the user to choose which to use), but it’s pretty much all working now.
