Mi Box Android TV Live TV issues

Got this working on Mi Box, running Nougat beta. All is well for recordings etc - LiveTV “works”, but for some reason anything I play Live that is 1080 shows “DirectPlay” at half-1080 resolution (960x540). 720 stations seem fine. I can use other LiveTV apps on the Mi Box, and even the HDGrandSlam Plex Channel to view these 1080 streams at full resolution. Not sure where I could disable DirectPlay? Not sure if that would help. Recordings etc play back fine.

Live TV doesn’t work AT ALL on my Mi Box (and only about 50% of the time on my Apple TV).

I haven’t updated to the beta of Nougat on the mi box as it’s unofficial release and may end up getting stuck on it.

But Live Tv is completely non functional on android Tv 6.x.

Yes… Did not work until I installed nougat beta… But has this issue, though it does play

Try updating the firmware per

one of the things listed in the last post is
HDHomeRun Firmware (20170808beta2)
Fix problem with HD channel detection.

And where do you get the beta? I have 2 MI boxes, and the last update of plex caused both to stop working with live channels. Mind you neither does my phone…

I will try that and report back. the beta Nougat firmware can be found by Googling - I think it is posted and discussed on XDA forums. It works fairly well and did enable Live TV - not official, and you can’t go back, as far as I know. - I think the official Nougat mi Box release is due soon, or so they say

Plex Live TV works on my shield and on my android phone, however it does not work on the Mibox. It did a couple weeks ago. Is this a bug introduced by an update?

I have had the Mi Box only a short time, and though I did hear previous app versions supported Live TV, mine, having run just the latest version of the Plex app, had to be flashed to the Nougat beta to make it work. I saw some reports here of Android phones running Marshmallow (6.x) having same live tv issue - spinning circle forever. My Nexus 6P on Nougat works fine. The remaining Mi Box issue seems to be getting full resolution from the Live TV stream, or it seems, from “raw” mpegts recordings - not a big issue there as I am transcoding these via postprocessing and the recordings passed through that play at full resolution.

It was the last release, both my Mi boxes worked prior to that. Not sure why, some of the forum posts I read seemed to think it had to do with the version player included and version android as ccihon indicated…

If there will be an official Mi Nougat release I’ll likely wait for that.

In the mean time, you can go into Settings, Advanced, Player, select Use External Player and use VLC for Android, but I haven’t found similar for Android TV yet, but also haven’t spent time…

Live TV wasn’t working on my Nexus Player until I disabled audio passthrough in the Plex app settings on my Nexus Player. Not sure if that will help with a Mi Box though.

Yep exactly the same with my Mi Box. Worked fine the last couple of weeks and then either the latest Plex app update Live Tv stopped working completely on my Mi Box.

I tried audio pass through, no joy. And there is no option to use an external player in Android TV that I can find…

By the way, latest hdhr firmware did not solve my resolution issue

Using the HDHR app until this all gets sorted out.

Down side to that is I think it would tie up a tuner for recording and another for watching if same program. I think I may regress if I can…

I don’t think you can record and play live tv of the same program at the same time with plex anyway.

It seemed to work when I tested it, but maybe because both were using .ts files. Just one tuner in my hdhomerun connect in use.
