Just got the cheap Walmart Mi Box. A Shield it ain’t, but generally most things work. Still no official Nougat running on it, Just Marshmallow. Plex app works well for playing and scheduling recordings, but unlike my Shield, refuses to allow playback of Live channels from Plex. All recordings and media play well, and I am using an HDHR prime. The latest Android and iOS apps play my DVR server live streams just fine, too. Anyone tried a Mi Box and have a suggestion? I can select the channel, then hit play - it shows a tuner is being selected - I know the HDHR channel then tunes - then spinning circle forever or until I select “back”. Box is connected very fas wireless AC, near the router - really don’t suspect issue there as recordings play fine. I should note Mi Box is just used as a DVR client for a Win10 Plex server.
Last question - is chapter skipping really available on the Android TV app? is it accessible on the remote?
I have the same box, and have streamed Live TV without issue.
Have you only tried to stream HD content? If so, try streaming SD content, if that plays fine then it could be a bandwidth issue.
Also, I haven’t been able to do chapter skipping from a the remote without pausing the stream and using the on-screen chapter list
Live TV is not working on Mibox with latest plex server 1.8+ and plex app 6.3+. Also not working on other android tv devices. Several other threads with same issue. No response yet from plex. My guess is they only test on few android tv devices like nvidia shield etc, not mibox. Exoplayer v2/plex not displaying live tv on mibox, just spinning wheel.
Exact same problem on my Mi Box. An earlier version of the app a few days ago worked fine with Live TV. As of the updates a couple of days ago no Live Tv channels tune anymore.
All other functionality in the Plex app including playing other shows/movies and even recorded DVR shows work. Live TV works on my other clients (iOS and Apple TV) but don’t get me started on how BAD the Live Tv functionality and lack of DVR features is on the Apple TV.
The Plex DVR is still so incredibly buggy and unstable I can’t believe they think it’s now good enough to be out of beta.
It’s a shame… Worked on shield, but gave that to my daughter… Hoped it will continue to work for her… Last I used it was a previous version. There used to be option on Android mobile to use another video player…I assumed no option for current Android TV app? Just have to wait or use the Hdhr Plex channel or Kodi for Plex… Clunky
So here is maybe some good news - I just got the box yesterday, and am mostly experimenting with it, so I flashed the “beta” Nougat build you can find on XDA forum (google it). Not for the faint-hearted, as you can’t go back to 6, as I understand it, or apply any 6 patches as it is 7.0 - but LIVE TV NOW WORKS! Try it at your own risk. The xda forum details what is “broken” in the beta, which mainly looks to be stuff that was broken on Mi Box on 6. I have not used it musch, but Plex working as expected.
