Server Version#: Plex Media Server 1.182.2029-36236cc4
Player Version#: Roku Ultras with all latest versions of F/W and Plex apps
Hello all
Am very sorry if this is one of the TAQ’s that everyone asks, but I currently have a dedicated LT running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit being used as my Plex server with all its media on a USB connect 4TB portable HD and it has served me pretty well considering I paid $300 bucks for it and so long ago I can’t even remember.
As such I finally decided to spring for a new LT which is running Windows 10 Pro 64 an would like to migrate all that would be needed of Plex over to that one with the hope I can just plug that into the Network in place of the old LT and with using the same PC name as the old and need as little work as possible after that.
So can anyone help me or perhaps provide a link to a page that outlines how to do this?
Hello OttoKernal and thank you for the link above as it gets me about 90% of the way there.
But for two hopefully last questions I have are, as the link above describes backing up the needed data, but what I am doing is starting out with a completely new PC that has never had the server software installed…my guess is that I would still need to download the correct server software and install and set that up so its all working correctly first, and then replace the bits I backup that were described?
Then for a second question to all that, does the fact that I have all the actual media on a separate USB hard drive mean anything?
My guess for that would be to do everything you linked and then I described above, and then plug in the USB drive and reboot so when the server starts up it will see all the info it would be looking for?
Preparation for the move:
Make sure to disable ‘Automatic’ and ‘Periodic’ library updates while still on the old machine.
Do also disable “Empty trash automatically after every scan” under Settings - Server - Library
(you better not activate this with external drives in general)
Make the same configuration change after the initial installation of Plex on the new machine.
Precisely.
Make sure that this USB drive is assigned the same drive letter that it had on the old machine.
If you can’t remember anymore, go into the properties of a library, to the ‘Add Folders’ tab.
