Migration from native synology package to docker on synology

Server Version#: (1.25.0.5246)
Player Version#:4.66.1 ?

So I updated my DMS to DMS7.0.
Plex migration went smooth and everything is working.
However I’m looking into setting up other software using docker and would like to migrate my installation from the synology package to docker

Is it enough for me to map my volume “/volume1/PlexMediaServer” to my container “/PlexMediaServer” and of course my media shares as well.
Will this simply run everything it is supposed to? or am I risking a global clusterf*ck here?

Thank you for the information!

You want the bottom section, where you define the container via docker run after first obtaining the UID/GID of System Internal User PlexMediaServer

Got it up and running as a charm with no loss of metadata. Thank you verry much!

If I follow that guide, is it safe to delete the native plex app? I want to have just the docker version.

I would leave the Plex app installed but “Stopped”.

There’s no way of knowing if Synology might come out with an update which removes the shared folder or (more importantly) the hardware access if the app isn’t installed.

I ran the task you linked to but it’s not giving me the UID/GID

task:

#!/bin/bash

# get uid/gid for docker/plex
grep PlexMediaServer /etc/passwd

Task Scheduler has completed a scheduled task.

Task: Plex UID
Start time: Fri, 03 Dec 2021 15:14:39 GMT
Stop time: Fri, 03 Dec 2021 15:14:40 GMT
Current status: 0 (Normal)
Standard output/error:
PlexMediaServer:x:297536:297536::/var/packages/PlexMediaServer/home:/sbin/nologin

From SynologyDS918

Please advise.

UID (the first number) = 297536
GID (the second number) = 297536

:smiley:

The other way to do it is:

#!/bin/sh

id PlexMediaServer

The output is a little more clearly defined.

On my Linux host

[chuck@lizum photos.2007]$ id chuck
uid=1000(chuck) gid=1000(chuck) groups=1000(chuck),4(adm),24(cdrom),27(sudo),30(dip),46(plugdev),120(lpadmin),131(lxd),132(sambashare)
