Server Version#: 1.40.3.8555 (Docker)
Player Version#: 4.129.1 (WebApp)
Hello,
I’ve been trying to migrate my Plex installation from the old server (Synology DS418) to a new server (MinisForum UN100L, ArchLinux). Since I’m doing the migration, I want to profit from it and get the server running with Docker to make it “independent” of the OS, and this server already runs other Docker applications (Traefik & Nextcloud).
I’ve been using this guide, as well as the Github page.
Should I have used the “PLEX_CLAIM” environment variable AFTER restoring the data yop boot the new server?
The Support guide makes no mention about claiming a server ![]()
I ran a first migration and I thought that everything was working properly. I was able to access the server through the LAN IP address, rework the libraries and, finally, claim the server. The “claim” option was not in the guide, but Plex was complaining about the server not being claimed.
Then I noticed that I was able to access the content via de web (app.plex.tv) but that I was no longer able to access the web app through the LAN IP. I was getting an “Connection reset error” from the browser.
Since I was not able to solve the problem with the connection reset, I decided to wipe the installation, but I forgot to “logout” the server before wiping the data (I think an important mistake).
Since that error, I’ve been trying to setup it again, restoring the data from the old NAS, only to find a similar result (and I’ve tried several times). I can use the web application on the LAN IP, I get the complain that the server is not claimed and, once I go through the claiming process I end up with two issues:
- The server can no longer be accessed through the LAN IP.
- The server, once claimed, can be accessed from the outside, as I’ve setup the appropriate port forwarding in the router.
- Plex complains that the server can not be accessed securely. This one, I think, is caused by me not logging out of the server before wiping the data

Thus, I am here to look for help on what to do next. I have already restored the server once more and I can access it through the LAN IP. It is now in the last stage, complaining that it is not claimed though I fear that if I claim it once more, I’ll end up with the same result.
Any hint on how to proceed?
I thought about wiping the data again, restoring the files and booting the server with the “PLEX_CLAIM” variable set, but I prefer to have some input before having to restore a 7GB zip file once more ![]()
Should you need more information, don’t hesitate to ask ![]()
Best regards,
David
