I have the original Beavis and Butthead series from 1993 and I am currently adding Mike Judges Beavis and Butthead Episodes 1-6 added to its own series just fine but episodes 7 and 8 added to the Beavis and Butthead 1993 season 1 instead of Mike Judges Beavis and Butthead Season 1. The naming scheme is the same on all of them but only episodes 7 and 8 are experiencing this issue.
Mike Judges Beavis and Butthead Episode 7 and 8 showing up in Beavis and Butthead Season 1 from 1993
are they Mp4’s? how are folders organized?
what scheme is that?
The original Beavis and Butt-Head only has 3 episodes in season 1 according to the TVDB.
What are episodes 7 and 8 matching with for the new series?
The sentence BigWheel highlighted has me wondering if you have both series named as Beavis and Butt-Head.
I did notice that my tv renamer doesn’t have episode 7 and 8 listed yet. If Plex doesn’t see those episodes as existing yet maybe it’s just picking the closest thing?
If you have the episodes listed with different names already. Beavis and Butt-Head vs. Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head (2022) you might try putting the dates in the file folder and see if that makes the difference.
See attached screenshots
Do you have prefer local metadata enabled? and your naming schema could use some improvements.
I think the majority of your problem lies in the original series. Plex doesn’t like anything named without the season and episode markers. S01E01. The 1x01a is a problem It is probably picking up some of those and not others so when you start adding a series named similarly everything gets out of hand quick.
It should be like this
Beavis and Butt-Head (Folder)
Season 01 (Folder)
files
Beavis and Butt-Head - S01E01 - Door-to-Door.mp4
Beavis and Butt-Head - S01E02 – Give Blood.mp4
Beavis and Butt-Head - S01E03 – Baloon.mp4
2nd show
Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head
Season 01
Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head – S01E01 – Escape Room [1080p.AMZN.WEB-RIP].mp4
are they mp4s? which agent is the library actually using? if they are mp4s and they have embedded show title like the 1993 show then it might be the reason. dissabling local media assets ( if using old TVDB or themoviedb agenst) or disabling prefer local metadata ( if using new Plex TV series agent)
As a total side note i highly suggest in windows always viewing your files in list mode and to always show file extensions
That is logical and I will try it. Stand by please.
And they are MKV files
That show (the new one) is a mess right now on Plex. When it first came out a few weeks ago, it wasn’t detected correctly, so I had to manually match it to TVDB or TMDB, both of which resulted in the same (correct) match. Since then, TVDB changed their ID for the show and now won’t fix match any longer in Plex. TMDB still works, but now matches incorrectly to “Untitled Beavis and Butt-Head Revival Project” (same as auto-match).
That is how it happened for me. Thank god I am not as stupid as I thought LOL
Any Chance you folks will look in to this?
What agent does your library pull shows from? I’m using the TVDB
The issue VBB is talking about should only keep your episodes from being matched. Mine say TBA and they will change to the proper description after TVDB sorts their mess out. All those are there in the proper order 1-8
It still shouldn’t be matching your new series to the old series unless you have TMDB selected and they’re even worse off LOL
This is where I have to show my ignorance. Can you walk me through that. LOL
My new Beavis and Butt-Head was matching just fine but now the Plex TV Series can’t even find the correct show. Now all that comes up is “Untitled Beavis and Butt-Head Revival Project” which is not correct.
It totally decided to re-match to something not correct, the original match is no longer searchable and there is absolutely nothing wrong with my naming convention.
Using The Movie Database it matches fine with correct episode names. The title is still wrong. The TVDB is completely borked for this series,
Click the 3 dots next to your tv library in the side bar
Manage Library → Edit →

Advanced, then scroll down
As you can see they’re kind of buried so you’re not the only one who doesn’t know where it is lol

That’s the way mine is listing all the episodes and VBB is right. They did match last week when I put them on there
It is set to TVDB and I had the same experience. So at least I know its not just me. Thanks A lot
The new episodes that were added today won’t populate with metadata til tomorrow at the earliest if using new agent.
We might have a stale cache regarding the show Title. I see someone at TheMovieDB did have it as that at one point but does not look like we picked up when it was fixed. I’ll let metadata team know
