MiNX compressed MKV video files..?

Please Help … Does the Plex ( I have the PLEX PASS) , newest version, 1.14.1.5488 play the MiNX compressed MKV video files…??? I have just started collect them, and I have had 6 so far that appear to never start, but appear to buffer, or the spinning icon as soon as I start any of them. Do I need a CODEC or anything added to my PLEX…? I have an i7 - 7500 with 32GB ram… None of the other files, avi, regular mkv, etc, do this…

The MiNX files play fine in VLC, or other players… Just not the PLEX…

PLEASE HELP !!!

And Thanks in advance for the assistance…

I think, plex is transcoding, you need to get them to “direct play” but there is no setting that I can see, that allows it.

There is an android app called Xplay. You can get a months trial, but then it’s about £7 for a license.

There seem to be a lot of people complaining about this.

I have got a Nvidia shield, which doesn’t have that problem.

You can optimise the movies, so that plex can play without transcoding.

Get Emby or Kodi

Hi,

Even if I play them directly from the Plex Server, which is a Windows 10 Pro O/S, running on an i7 - 7500 system with 32gb ram. It should be plenty to view them. I can play them on VLC, on the same system…

Also, thanks for the Suggestion for the Android app. I have over 10000 files on the PLEX server, so playing them on an Android app really wouldn’t help. I just can’t imagine it not being able to play on a heavy-wright system like this. Is it the PLEX software that is unable to handle the MiNX files…? I just went out and got a “Non-MiNX” version of the same episode, as a test, and it plays fine.

HELP !!!

Again, Thanks…

I think Plex is transcoding them, because it doesn’t recognise them?

The Xplay app has an option to direct play, XPlay (Android TV)

I agree that your system is pretty powerful. The only things, are optimise the files, get Emby or use Kodi.

You said: “I think, plex is transcoding, you need to get them to “direct play” but there is no setting that I can see”, but if this is true, would other files be transcoding as well…? All other files are playing , and in numerous file formats… It seems to only be the MiNX mkv files,… Does anyone know how I get them to play…? Please if one of the TECH’s can assist…

Good luck waiting for a TECH to answer.

What is this? I’ve never heard of a compression called ‘MiNX’?
All I could find was an ancient video conferencing system named MINX.

It’s not an encoding technology OttoKermer. It’s an encoding group.

Don’t feel bad, I had to google it myself as I hadn’t heard of it either as I don’t get files that way.

Then I can only assume that they are manipulating some encoder parameters in a way that is only compatible to the “media sewage plant” called VLC, but not to all the embedded systems and video decoder chips which are built into smart tvs and media player devices.

I certainly remember similar issues when every second user of Handbrake was using his own super-duper custom parameters in the ‘advanced’ tab. Only to end up with files which played only on computers, but not on many embedded systems.

Thanks Guys … So … It would seem the moral of this story is the files are so compressed, or manipulated so extremely that they are unplayable through PLEX. Thanks for all the help you guys have been, and for even taking the time to answer my question…
Have a great Holidays…
