Plex forces transcoding for mkv files (and not playing on Android)

Server Version#: 1.24.4.5081 (but same issue on previous few versions) Ubuntu 20.04
Player Version#:

For maybe a month now, whenever I try to play a MKV file, the following happens:

  • On my LG TV, the server forces transcoding (even though the same files direct-played fine before).
  • On the Shield and also my Android phone, either, the video never loads, or it plays a black screen with no sound.

To notice that I have a second server (Synology NAS) and it direct plays the same files from the same devices.

I’m pretty sure it happens only with MKV files.
