In my Plex Music library on my Terramaster server, I have Plex grouping my albums by type, i.e. Singles and EP’s, Soundtracks, compilations, etc.
Duplicate albums (and album tracks with similar names) are not showing up sometimes in the sections other than the main album section.
For example, I had Bob Dylan’s 2 disc version of The Bootleg Series Volume 12. I then added the 6 disc version of that album and the new version of the album does not show up as a separate item in the Windows Player, rather discs 3 to 6 appeared under the original 2 disc version of the album. If I view the same library from plex on my phone I can see two entries for the album.
I have the same issue today with Air’s The Virgin Suicides. I have the original single disc CD in the Soundtracks section and have now added the new 2 disc Virgin Suicides Redux disc to my library. Disc 1 of the new album does not appear in my Windows Player as a separate item. Disc 2 showed up as The Virgin Suicides Redux (Disc 2). I went into that entry and selected all the tracks and selected edit. I shortened the end of the album name to “The Virgin Suicides Redu” and it gave me an auto-completed version of this as, “The Virgin Suicides Redux“ so it knows the album is in the library but is not displaying it. I added the tracks as disc 2 of that album and I could no longer see them. I cannot view, “The Virgin Suicides Redux” album under soundtracks (or anywhere else). If I view the library from my phone I can see the two versions of the album in the SoundTracks section.
Additionally, on the Dylan Bootleg Volume 12, disk 3 is 20 versions of the same song. On Windows I can only see the first 4 tracks on that album and on mobile I can see all 20.
All the above is in Plex on Terramaster. I have a second Media Server running on Windows which has a backup copy of my music library. On the same Windows player, the same albums display without issue from the Windows Media Server.
So… This is a problem with the Windows Player displaying duplicate album entries from Media Server running on Terramaster and album tracks with near identical names.
