Missing episodes

Hi, I uploaded a tv series and I am missing multiple episodes from multiple seasons and I am not sure why. They are all the same file type and named the same way. I would love to fix this.

Plex is very picky when it comes to TV show naming and organization.

Can you show a screenshot or directory listing of how you have things organized?

Make sure you follow Plex Media Preparation guidelines. Specifically, Naming ‘Series’ & ‘Season’ Based TV Shows.

Plex matches against TheTVDB.com. It helps if your naming matches theirs.

If the series is a reboot, then add the year to the name. For example, Lost In Space (1965) and Lost In Space (2018).

Be aware that many downloaded files are filled with “junk metadata” that can result in Plex mis-identifying shows. For example, the name field may have the download location instead of the name of the episode. You should remove such information from the files. It will make living with Plex much more enjoyable. See this post for additional information.

Important: If you have to rename/re-organize things, you will need to perform the Plex Dance to make sure the old, incorrect information is removed from Plex’s database.

Example naming & organization (from “Naming Series & Season…” document):

Here is the way I currently use to organize Plex TV Shows.
/Drive name/Grey’s Anatomy/Season 1/grey’s-anatomy-1x1
/Drive name/Grey’s Anatomy/Season 1/grey’s-anatomy-1x2
For me the Plex server got confused if I named the downloaded files anything else but that.
However, the Plex server should also recognize the naming/grouping scheme of SVRs (Streaming Video Recorder) such as PlayOn.tv or files transferred from cable box DVR.

If that’s working for you, call yourself lucky.
Claiming it’s the only way Plex does recognize the files is however wrong.

Long story short… the safest way of adding tv files is by sticking to the official naming conventions as pointed out by Ford. You might have gotten lucky but don’t count on this to work all the time.
