The problem with this is that it will only recognice “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes”, and add a random “season 03” from The Case-book of Sherlock Holmes.

Each of these are separate series, but somehow still identified as just one.

Any idea how I can force Plex to get all 4 series? Is my naming wrong? Or is there something wrong with the agent detection?

Thanks.

Which folder did you add to the TV Library, Crime or Sherlock Holmes?

If Crime, Plex does not support subfolders such as Sherlock Holmes for TV series.

Move the shows to the Crime folder instead of Sherlock Holmes.

s:\crime\The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984)
s:\crime\The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes (1991)
etc.

If you have all your crime shows grouped by franchise and want to keep them that way, you can add each franchise folder to the TV library instead of the Crime folder.

This lets you keep your preferred organization and also adhere to Plex’s requirements.

EDIT: Add “General” folder as catch-all for all other shows, as recommended by @DracoChronicles.

For example:

s:\crime\Sherlock Holmes <-- Add to "Crime" TV Library
......\The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984)
......\The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes (1991)
etc
s:\crime\Law & Order <-- Add to "Crime" TV Library
......\Law & Order Special Victims Unit
......\Law & Order Criminal Intent
etc
s:\crime\CSI <-- Add to "Crime" TV Library
......\CSI
......\CSI New York
etc
s:\crime\General <-- "catch all" for non-franchise shows. Add to "Crime" TV Library
......\Lie to Me
......\Dexter
etc

Thanks.

I was not aware that subfolders was not supported within TV-series
I will see what I can do about it. Move them one step down then, or do like your second suggestion. Will see how it looks. It’s not only the estetics of the Plex server, that I think is important, but also the organization of the file-structure

Subforlder support, might be a good suggestion for an improvement?

Thanks again.

Alright, so I immidately found a problem on your second suggestion.

Since I have some series that are not part of a theme or franchise, I would still like to have the standard CRIME folder added, but adding the folder crim\Sherlock Holmes to the library did nothing.
I think I would have to organize all in subfolders, and add them all to the CRIME category.

\volume1\Crime\CSI
\volume1\Crime\NCIS
\Volume1\Crime\Law & Order
\volume1\Crime\Sherlock Holmes
\volume1\Crime\Agatha Christie

And for good show, add a “general folder” to the structure for non-franchise/theme shows

\volume1\Crime\General

And move all standard single shows there.
\general\Lie to me
\general\Dexter

etc.

Do you agree this would be the way?
Would like to have a confirmation before I start moving everything…

Precisely.

Yes. I edited my post to add such a folder.

Otto already confirmed, but yes.

FWIW, I’m doing something similar with my movies, splitting them into sub-folders based on first letter in the file name, then adding the sub-folders to my Plex movie library.

I did this to make backups easier, not because of any Plex issue, but Plex works just fine with it.

/movies/#-d/ <-- add to Movies library
/movies/e-h/ <-- add to Movies library
...
/movies/w-z/ <-- add to Movies library

/movies is larger than any one of my external USB drives. Using subfolders makes it easier to backup to multiple USB drives. Nothing magic about four letters per subfolder, it was just easy.
