Hi there just wondering I had no problem playing all files streaming them from my Synology Drive to the Plex App on my tv though my PS5 or straight to the Tv with direct connected ethernet with good speeds. But recently I have had glitching and pausing and had to keep lowering the quailty but this only fixes it for a few minutes. I started reading threads and have trouble shot many problems it could be.
-Enabling Direct Play
-Recoding The File To Not Be MKV (as supposedly Plex doesnt support this file. WHY I DONT KNOW ITS THE MOST USED FILE WHEN WILL YOU SUPPORT THIS FILE TYPE?)
-Checked Plex at the most recent update
I fully updated my NAS Synology software which was a bit behind.
I still seem to have a problem. Anyone else had this problem? PLEX PLEASE FIX YOUR SUPPORT FOR MKV im a life time member help those who support you.
Plex supports MKV just fine.
Keep in mind there’s much more to your media when it comes to compatibility beyond the container / file format, e.g. video/audio/subtitle codecs, bitrate, encoding levels, resolution, # of channels…
As for your particular issue… what specific version of the Plex Media Server and Client app are you using? Are you experiencing this with wired / wireless connections? Any details about the media you’re trying to play when you experience this? Any details about the network setup and if the media is actually streaming locally (vs. remote or indirect)?
hi mate i am streaming to my PS5 with a wired ethernet connection so i have fast speeds. Other treads I have read say that Plex doesnt support MKV files and that it has problems running them. When I watch a movie or tv show and put up details on screen it says that “direct stream has been disabled” and this seems to happen with MKV files.
I am running PLEX Version 1.27.0.5897 on my MAC the synology system i bought was high end and has plenty of power.
I used to stream remotely if i go down the the in laws at Phillip Island and it would stream to my phone and then screen share to the tv though chrome cast easy no problems only in last month or 2 have i been having problems
That’s only partially true with regards to the native playback support of the PlayStation app/platform. Though as long as the tracks in your MKV are in a supported format, Plex will still be able to direct stream it (no transcoding/quality loss, just remuxing for compatibility.
The Plex for PlayStation app does not currently support Direct Playing of MKV container videos. If the audio and video streams in the file are otherwise compatible, it will be Direct Streamed without losing any quality.
This could mean you actually disabled the direct stream option in the client app or the content of your file isn’t compatible (and therefore cannot be direct played / streamed but needs to be transcoded). Server logs will usually show the technical reason for the latter.
thanks mate I made sure the direct stream button was checked and that the video quaily is at 720p which i was normally watching them on 1080p fine until this issue started happening
I wonder if when the file is originally transcoded that its been a bad transcode but this has happened on multiple movies or tv shows and only of recent
