MKV Ordered Chapters Support

Any closer to becoming reality?
Hey!

I read a thread requesting this from a couple years back (2008). In it, it was stated that this feature probably wouldn't surface until somebody did some work on it. Well, now someone has created a patch for the FFMPEG/MPlayer source that allows for ordered chapters support and it's actually currently in use by the mplayer builds found here: http://code.google.com/p/mplayerosx-builds/

What are the chances of this appearing in Plex fairly quickly? While Plex is a beautiful media center, with the increasingly more popular use of ordered chapters for HD show openings and endings, I find myself having to exit and open Mplayer instead way too often :(

Thanks!

I would like to add my hopes for this as well. I know it’s a small niche right now because most (if not the only) people who need this support are anime fans, but I’m sure the technology will grow to encompass more media types in the future.

Just bumping this again in hopes of a developer response. Even if it’s negative, that’s better than nothing…

I too would really like to see this feature in Plex. I recently switched to the Mac and while Plex already seems so far ahead of anything I’ve previously used, having this feature would be the icing on the cake.

We'll look at supporting this once it's implemented in ffmpeg trunk.

Has there been any progress with ordered chapters in ffmpeg recently? I really really really want this.

Ordered chapters support would be amazing.

Perhaps this will become possible at some point in Plex 0.9?

I’m adding a plus one. I really need this feature for Plex to be helpful at all.

I would absolutely love ordered chapter support!

I think that this feature is much more mainstream these days that it should be taken a look into; numerous movies that I own have this feature, and most every anime show I own uses Ordered Chapters.

I would definitely appreciate it if you folks considered implementing this feature.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

And yet one more bump.

Sorry if I’m bumping this too often, but I’d love to get a response from a developer as to how things are progressing/if you guys have looked into this as of late.

It’s been a year since the last developer post.

I would also like this feature to be added. It would be interesting to know what the status of ordered chapter support in ffmpeg is if that’s what the Plex devs are waiting for.

Yeah, ffmpeg needs to support it, and that version of ffmpeg that supports it needs to be integrated into Plex (which by no means is a simple task). Have you guys checked if ffmpeg supports it nowadays?

We’ll definitely consider this feature for a future release, it’s a good one.

Thanks for responding, Elan. I really appreciate it.

Okay, so I've done a fair amount of research into ffmpeg and ordered chapters support. It looks like the guys developing a side branch of MPlayer OSX Extended got it working correctly. See here for more details: http://code.google.com/p/mplayerosx-builds/

It looks like everything needed to compile ffmpeg correctly is provided, and there's also a guide to doing so correctly.

On an unrelated note, it looks like they also managed to fix ssa subtitle rendering, which is something PLEX still can't quite manage to do properly (I can provide pictures and whatnot if more detail is needed, but, again, this is off-topic) - I think this has something to do with an updated version of libass.

I realize that it's somewhat awkward to point at other software, but it looks like everything is open source.

I hope that I'm not coming off rude or anything like that - rather, I'm just overly excited that someone has managed to fix the two largest beefs I have with playing videos on a Mac.

What do you guys think?

That is good information, and we appreciate you digging into finding info about it. I am however uncertain about what can be lifted or not from those sources. Maybe it is very easy. I do not know. Only the devs can answer that.
What it all comes down to is priorities. It is something they are looking into adding in the future, but it will not be done in this or next release. Afaik.

Any news regarding this feature? has this been implemented?

it seems that this forum is quite unpopulated, i was realy wondering if this feature will hit plex any time soon.

Trying my luck again, will this feature be implemented sometime or there is no plan for this for the time beeing.

Adding my voice to this! Would love this feature.
