Chapters support for MKV files

When I look at my mkv files in Kodi or VLC, it have support for chapters. If I look at music concerts for example, I can easily switch to the next song. This is a feature I miss in Plex.

Chapters are already read by the server. The different plex clients are currently gaining support to jump to these chapters.

The best support for chapters currently has the iOS plex app. it shows you a list with chapter titles and preview pictures.

You can at least jump from chapter marker to chapter marker in the Plex Web app with a keyboard shortcut.

[ or
alt + ←	Step Backward
] or
alt + →	Step Forward

Refer to the release notes and documentation of the different client apps to see whether chapter markers are already supported in your plex client of choice.

Rule number one for this particular subforum: search before making a new request.

Rule number 1 maybe be to search, but the search shows that it isn’t implemented in the way users would like. It’s therefore spot on for it to be requested time and time again so that Plex understand what their customer base require.

How long will it take to get chapter support working properly on each app?

By properly I mean:

-ability to call up a screen showing each chapter, it’s name (not Chapter 1) and a thumbnail.

For me, this is a huge gap on the apps.

As such +1 for me on this feature request.

My preference of order of build would be:

PMP
Roku
AFTV

No, it’s not.
Duplicate requests are deleted or at least locked when they are spotted.

Plex Inc never gives out roadmaps or dates at which feature X will be implemented.

As I already explained above, this is how it is already working in the iOS app.
And Plex strives for feature parity among apps, so it is quite likely, that at some point the other apps will gain the same functionality (unless there is a technical reason for not doing so).

When will plex wake up and understand that the process for understanding what their user base wants is totally broken.

In the absence of a proper feature request collation system, it is 100% correct for users to keep posting what they want. It keeps it fresh and alive.

So reviewing the feature request thead: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/214180/top-feature-requests#latest
… where is the existing request for proper chapter support?

The feature voting subforum is only one of several data points which are considered when deciding which features get implemented in which order.
Nobody said that the feature request with the highest number of ā€˜Likes’ gets implemented first.

Closing off duplicate requests or even worse deleting them just dilutes what the user base wants.

But commenting on any existing request does the same thing, it brings the request to the top the forum.

But the rules state to LIKE a request to show your support as opposed to ā€œ+1ā€ commenting. As such leaving the FR buried.

No, they state that you must ā€˜like’ for your vote to count. You are still free to add a comment as well.

So searching for Chapter Support (Rule Number 1). I get this return:

https://forums.plex.tv/search?adv=&search=chapter+support&title=&author=&cat=all&tags=&discussion_d=1&discussion_question=1&discussion_poll=1&comment_c=1&comment_answer=1&within=1+day&date=

Now apparently Chapter Support is implemented (https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/120636/implemented-dvd-bluray-like-chapters-support/). Yes, okay, it is in a fashion. So where do I need to register my support for proper chapter support so that Plex know what the user base want? There’s loads of threads but which one do I Like and add my comment to?

If none of then is closed, you are free to add to all of them.
Remember what I said above duplicate threads are closed when they are spotted.

Okay, so how do ā€˜you’ know how many people want chapter support. Does someone physically trawl this sub forum and collate the likes? Is there SQL code ran across the forum.

As mentioned, this requirement isn’t in the summary of feature requests in the sticky so to the lay person it doesn’t appear to have been picked up by anyone as a feature request.

So now I’ve highlighted the multiple requests for Chap Sup, can it be properly collated, threads closed off. One left open (prefixed with [Feature Request] top make searching easy. And can the link be added to the summary thread.

Would you agree that the way to request and collate features is fundamentally broken ;).

Yes, someone it watching, see:

Yes, that’s the thread I refer to and Chapter Support isn’t in that thread. It’s in there under ā€˜Implemented’, but it’s not really implemented in the way required.

So then why did you need to ask this question,

Okay, so how do ā€˜you’ know how many people want chapter support. Does someone physically trawl this sub forum and collate the likes? Is there SQL code ran across the forum.

If you knew the thread existed ?

Different question. The thread exists but it doesn’t say how the information in the thread is collated.

Does someone physically scroll through each thread in this subforum and use pen and paper to collate the numbers or this there some sort of automated SQL alogorythm.

Totally different question. The thread is the output, I’m asking how the input is collated.

please implement multi-file chapter support…

Ordered chapters are commonly used in anime fansubs to separate the OP/ED from the individual episodes. Support for them would be awesome.

The feature request for ā€œOrdered Chaptersā€ is in here:
